Customer Q & A - Topic "PARTIAL SUBFLOOR APPLICATION":

Question:
I have one part of my home that has carpet and the rest does not. Do I need to insulate the entire footprint or can I leave the part that has carpet ? D - MORWELL, VIC

Answer:
It is always better to insulate the entire subfloor beneath the home’s living areas because insulation performs best as one continuous thermal and air-sealing layer. If only one section is sprayed, heat and draughts can still move through the untreated areas, reducing the overall comfort and energy-saving benefit.
The internal floor covering does not change this principle. Internal coverings do not seal gaps in the floorboards or stop heat escaping into the cold subfloor. Timber, tiles, vinyl and carpeted areas all benefit from having the complete subfloor insulated.
A full application provides more consistent floor temperatures, fewer cold spots and draughts, and better heating and cooling efficiency throughout the home. Partial insulation generally delivers only a partial result.

Customer Q and A day:
Hi team, Thanks for the quote.
We did use your company when we lived in our other house a few years ago, and were very happy. Since then though, I have had quite a few people advising me that spray foam can trap moisture, which could cause problems in timber floors. IS this true? G (Vic).

(Answer) This is one of the many reasons we specify the use of Icynene LDC 50 foam and very rarely spray a closed cell foam under a subfloor.
LDC-50 is a low-density, open-cell and vapour-permeable insulation. It creates an air seal beneath the floorboards but does not form a vapour-tight layer against the timber. Water vapour can diffuse through the foam, allowing the floor assembly to dry when suitable drying conditions are maintained. The air seal also reduces the movement of moisture-laden air through gaps in the floor, which can help lower the risk of condensation.
Before installation, we inspect the subfloor for leaks, dampness, drainage problems or timber deterioration. The foam should only be applied to suitable, sound timber, and it must never be used to cover an existing moisture problem. Subfloor drainage and required ventilation also remain important.

SQUEAKY FLOORBOARDS? HARDER FOAM ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER!

Icynene LDC-50 open-cell spray foam remains soft and flexible, helping absorb sound and vibration beneath timber floors.

Closed-cell foam cures hard and rigid, so movement in the boards or joists may still be transmitted—and future repairs can be more difficult.

⚠️ Spray foam isn’t a guaranteed repair for squeaks. Loose boards, fixings or joists should be mechanically repaired first.

Once repaired, LDC-50 open-cell foam provides:

✅ Thermal insulation
✅ Air sealing
✅ Sound absorption
✅ Flexible, long-lasting coverage

**For timber subfloors, flexibility matters.**

What happens to loose blown cellulose after a few years of compaction. Barry Pendley how well do you think my two 23’s with the 8” hose will handle this disaster?

Ever wondered why the batts on your ceiling aren't cutting the mustard?

❄️ Ever wondered why your home feels icy cold in winter (and boiling hot in summer)?

Take a look at a typical tiled roof in Australia—it’s full of gaps that let air rush straight in and out. Unfortunately, most Aussie houses are built more like tents than sealed homes.

If you’ve got ceiling batts and you’re still shivering (or sweltering), this is why… Batts are designed to work in airtight conditions. And with roofs like this, airtight they are not.

✅ Spray foam insulation is different. It seals up all those gaps, stopping air leaks and creating a true thermal barrier that keeps your home comfortable all year round.
