Our timber shed brochure is out!

Our timber portal frame sheds are designed and prefabricated in our Jindabyne factory and engineered for alpine snow and wind loads. There’s no standard size – any span, any length, any eave height, with no internal posts.

Machinery and hay sheds, workshops, garages and carports, stables and arenas, studios: we design each one around how you’ll use it, then erect it with our own crew or supply it as a kit for owner-builders.

Why timber?
β€’ Less condensation than steel – better for machinery, feed and tools
β€’ Quiet through the temperature swings
β€’ Stores carbon for the life of the building
β€’ Easy to fit out – linings, shelving and insulation fix straight to the frame

We build across the Snowy Monaro and the NSW South Coast. Message us or follow the link for a free site visit and quote:

Great morning at TAFE Connects in Jindabyne yesterday. Thanks to TAFE NSW and Michelle Pontello for bringing local businesses and community together to talk about the skills our region needs.

For us at Alpine PassivHaus, local training is everything. Our apprentices train with TAFE NSW while they build prefab passive house panels in our Jindabyne factory, and we want more young people to see a future in modern methods of construction (MMC) and high-performance building right here in the Snowy Mountains.

It was great to present at the Master Builders NSW Southern Regions meetings in Goulburn last week and Nowra this week on high-performance houses, the Passivhaus Standard and modern methods of construction (MMC) – and to meet so many excellent local builders. πŸ™Œ

We talked about what makes a high-performance home:
β˜€οΈ Passive solar gain – placing windows so the low winter sun warms the house for free, with shading to keep the high summer sun out
🧱 Plenty of insulation – a warm "jumper" around the whole house
πŸͺŸ High-performance windows – double or triple glazed with thermally broken, well-sealed frames, so windows don't become cold spots
πŸ”— Thermal-bridge-free design – no weak spots where heat sneaks out through the structure
🌬️ Airtight and vapour-open envelope – no draughts or wasted heat, while the walls can still dry out, so moisture and mould don't build up
πŸƒ Heat-recovery ventilation (HRV) – fresh, filtered air all day, keeping the warmth inside

The Passivhaus Standard brings all of this together. It's based on science and building physics, and every house is modelled and verified, so the performance is proven rather than guessed.

🏭 MMC: building wall, roof and floor panels in a factory, under cover and quality-checked. For builders that means a weathertight shell in days, fewer weather delays and trades on site, and Passivhaus-level performance that's built in rather than hoped for.

Thank you for all the excellent questions and discussions in both towns. A big thank you to Builders Association of NSW – Southern Regions and everyone who took part.

πŸ”οΈ Introducing our Pre-Designed, Prefabricated Eco Cabins – built for the mountains, ready for any climate.

Designed and prefabricated in our factory in the Snowy Mountains, our four Eco Cabins bring Passivhaus performance to ready-to-order designs. They range from a generous one-bedroom retreat to a full four-bedroom family home:

🏑 Stuben – 1 bed / 1 bath, 38 mΒ²
🏑 St. Christoph – 2 bed / 1.5 bath, 93 mΒ²
🏑 St. Anton – 4 bed / 2 bath, 130 mΒ²
🏑 L**h – 4 bed / 2.5 bath, 139 mΒ²

βœ… Up to 90% less heating and cooling energy – ultra-low bills, year after year
βœ… Filtered fresh air around the clock via heat-recovery ventilation
βœ… Mould-free walls and roof – every build-up verified with WUFI hygrothermal simulation
βœ… N3 wind rating (N4 on request) and designed for alpine snow loads
βœ… Off-grid ready – fully electric, with provision for solar, batteries and rainwater

Whether it’s a holiday or farm-stay cabin or your forever home, there’s a design to suit. The St. Christoph can even be extended into the L**h later.

πŸ—οΈ **The Future of Building: High-Performance, Sustainable & Prefabricated Housing**

We're excited to be speaking at the upcoming **Master Builders Association NSW – Shoalhaven Division Information Night** on Wednesday, 21 October in Nowra!

Our founder and Managing Director, Klaus Herrmann, will share how we're combining engineering, Passive House principles and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to rethink the way we build homes.

We'll explore:

🌱 **Beyond minimum standards** – Creating healthier, more comfortable and energy-efficient homes with a lower carbon footprint.

🏭 **Prefabrication & MMC** – How precision factory manufacturing can improve quality, productivity and construction efficiency.

🏑 **Passive House principles** – Designing buildings that deliver exceptional thermal comfort and performance.

πŸ”§ **Scaling sustainable construction** – Turning innovative engineering and design into practical, factory-built housing solutions.

We're looking forward to exchanging ideas with fellow builders and industry professionals about where our industry is heading.

From timber to wall panel in under 30 seconds ⏱️ (OK, it took the team a bit longer than that πŸ˜‰)

This is framing day in our factory in the Snowy Mountains. Australian Made Campaign
Every panel is built flat on our framing table, where it's square, dry and out of the weather:

πŸ“ The frame goes together from the shop drawings, with every stud, opening and window position set out before the first screw goes in
πŸͺ΅ LVL around the edges and openings, I-joists inside: strong, straight and room for deep insulation
🧱 The sheathing goes on and becomes the bracing and the airtight layer, one of the most important details in a high-performance building

Building it in the factory means a panel that's square and checked before it ever leaves the shed. On site, it goes up in days, not weeks.

Next step: the butterfly table flips the whole panel over so we can insulate it from the other side. That timelapse is coming next πŸ‘€

Big news from the Snowy Mountains! πŸ”οΈ

Our Eco Wall and Roof Panel System has been shortlisted for the 2026 Sustainability Awards (Green Building Material/Product category).

πŸ‘‰ Have a look at our entry: https://www.sustainablebuildingawards.com.au/green-building-material-product-2026/alpine-passivhaus-eco-wall-and-roof-structural-panel-system/

So what's inside our walls?

🌲 Timber frame and Australian plywood
πŸͺ΅ 60 mm wood fibre board on the outside
♻️ Insulation made from waste: wood fibre from sawmill offcuts, or cellulose made in Melbourne from recycled newspaper
β˜€οΈ All built in our off-grid, solar-powered factory

Every square metre of wall stores around 70 kg of COβ‚‚, more than it took to make it. 🌍

And because the wall can breathe and dry out, there's no condensation and no mould. That means healthier air inside, and a house that lasts.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us. Fingers crossed for the gala on 12 November! 🀞

Meet Jack Harmer πŸ‘‹

Jack is one of our apprentices at Alpine PassivHaus and part of the next generation of tradespeople coming through the industry.

He’s gaining hands-on experience in prefabrication, modern methods of construction and high-performance building β€” learning not just how to build, but why we build the way we do.

We’re proud of our team and proud to support apprentices who are eager to learn and grow.

Have a listen to Jack in the video.

TIMBER SHED BUILD | PART 3 – BLOCKING & BRACING πŸͺ΅

With the portal frames and infill framing up, it’s time to lock the structure together.

Blocking and bracing tie the timber structure together and provide the strength and stiffness needed to withstand the high winds we regularly experience here in the Snowy Mountains, as well as alpine snow loads.

One of the big advantages of timber construction is its flexibility. Insulation, services, windows and internal linings can all be easily integrated into the existing timber framing.

That makes it easy to add an office or workshop, or even convert the shed into a shed home later.

Strong, adaptable and designed for our alpine conditions.
