The Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment is a $30 million NSW Government investment delivering a modern, culturally welcoming healthcare facility for the Wentworth community. The redevelopment includes a 19-bed inpatient unit, primary and community health services, a new Urgent Care Centre, palliative care facilities, rehabilitation spaces, family-focused areas and landscaped outdoor environments. The project has been designed to provide contemporary healthcare services while enhancing patient comfort, wellbeing and accessibility.

To support the project’s healthcare design objectives, Gerflor supplied a comprehensive flooring solution across approximately 2,245m² of the facility. The specification combines high-performance homogeneous vinyl, safety flooring, acoustic flooring and wall protection systems to meet the demanding requirements of modern healthcare environments.

Yesterday, leaders from sport, government, major events, venues and business came together at Allianz Stadium for the FAWIB x Business France Women in Sport event. The discussion explored how major sporting events can deliver impact far beyond the competition itself, driving economic growth and investment, creating lasting community legacies, opening opportunities for women and girls and strengthening international partnerships between Australia and the global sporting community.

Representing Gerflor Australasia, National Sport Manager Wayne Jarred joined an impressive panel of industry leaders to share his experience across professional sport, major events and commercial partnerships. Wayne contributed to discussions around how investment in sporting infrastructure and precincts can create long-term economic value, as well as the importance of building strong international partnerships that deliver lasting benefits beyond a single project or event. His perspective highlighted Gerflor’s role in connecting French sports infrastructure expertise with the needs of the Australian sporting market and supporting the growth and sustainability of sport.

The term electrostatic discharge (ESD) refers to “…the rapid, spontaneous transfer of electrostatic charge induced by a high electrostatic field...”. Perhaps the best-known example of this, to the layperson at least, is the ‘shock’ felt after walking on carpet, then touching a doorknob or somebody else’s hand.

While, on their own, such discharges are negligible and pose no threat to people or property, in certain settings they are problematic. The potential consequences of ESD include fires and explosions in production conditions where vapours, gases, powders and flammable liquids are present; and damage to electronic devices found in hospitals, on electronic assembly lines, or in semi-conductor manufacturing facilities.

The EOS/ESD Association, a US-based organisation dedicated to advancing the understanding of electrical overstress (EOS) and the theory and practice of ESD avoidance, has formulated six principles of ESD control. Based on these principles, various methods of ESD protection have been developed.

The purpose of this Whitepaper is to shine a light on one such method of ESD protection, namely the installation of ESD Flooring. Beginning by outlining the regulations and standards that apply to the installation of ESD Flooring in Australia, it will then identify the various products of this type available. It will explain all the considerations involved in choosing the right product for a specific application.
