At Layr Supply Co., we didn't start in retail. We started on-site. 🛠️

We spent years designing and building high-end landscapes and pools across Sydney before we ever thought about becoming a stone supplier.

That construction background is the entire reason LAYR exists — because we knew exactly what quality looked like in the field, and we saw too many projects let down by:

The most common question we get: is natural stone really worth it over porcelain or concrete? 🤔

Here's the honest breakdown:

🔲 **Concrete** absorbs and radiates heat. On a hot Sydney day it can reach surface temperatures that make it genuinely uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. It cracks, stains, and ages in ways that are difficult to repair cleanly.

🟫 **Porcelain** is consistent and easy to source — until a tile needs replacing years later and the batch has been discontinued. Matching is nearly impossible.

🪨 **Natural stone** — particularly travertine and limestone — reflects more heat than it absorbs. The surface can be refreshed with resealing. Individual pieces can be replaced and aged to match. It does not degrade the way concrete does under thermal cycling and moisture.

The total cost of ownership over 10+ years? Natural stone wins. 💪
