Dense vegetation doesn't have to mean guesswork on your ground levels.
At RC Surveys, we're experts in airborne LiDAR with drone photogrammetry to do far more than just map ground levels under canopy.
LiDAR captures the full vegetation profile — individual tree heights, canopy spread, density and trunk locations. That data feeds directly into vegetation classification models and 3D clearance analysis.
Two areas where this delivers exceptional results:
Powerline easement encroachment — LiDAR identifies exactly which trees and branches breach minimum clearance envelopes around conductors. Instead of crews walking kilometres of easement through rough terrain, we deliver a prioritised encroachment register with height data, proximity to conductors, and GPS coordinates. Asset owners get targeted clearing schedules, not blanket vegetation removal.
Transport route clearance mapping — for road and rail corridors, we've mapped vegetation encroachments into design envelopes, overhead clearance zones, and sight distances. This is critical for new corridor planning, upgrade design, and ongoing maintenance programs where overgrown vegetation creates safety and compliance risks for transport operators.
The combination of ground surface data, full canopy modelling, and high-res drone imagery gives engineers and asset managers a complete dataset — delivered faster and safer than traditional ground survey in difficult terrain.
