Same factory, two different façades.

SJ Jalousie is built for the people inside. Its 135mm blades open to 80° for maximum airflow, and they're backed by built-in security bearers and fall prevention compliance for schools and exposed sites.

SJ Espacer is built for the building's face. Its 235mm blades span up to 1800mm in a thermally broken frame, and it integrates with stick or unitised curtain wall. Fewer lines, more glass, façade scale.

The full comparison is in the Selection Chart on the SJ website.

Josh, our QLD Business Development Manager, headed north to Townsville last week to catch up with clients and walk project sites. One of them was JCU's Engineering & Innovation Place.

Designing for Townsville means planning for heat, humidity, the breeze and cyclone season, all in the same building.

At EIP, operable louvres sit under deep eaves along the ground plane. The façade opens when conditions allow and stays shaded when they don't.

Specifying for the tropics? Send us a message and Josh can talk it through.

Embodied carbon in a window system is mostly decided before the window exists.

Aluminium is the bulk of it, and where that aluminium comes from and how it was smelted changes the number substantially. Which is why material transparency matters more than a product-level claim.

We publish what's in our systems rather than asking people to take our word for it.

Specifiers increasingly need that documentation to support a project's sustainability targets. It's easier to supply when it's already there.

For many social housing residents, the window is the ventilation system, the cooling system and the first defence against damp.

At Johanna O'Dea Court in Camperdown, the refurbishment had to deliver safety, security and ventilation at height. The usual answer, a 125 mm restrictor, would have given up most of the airflow to achieve the first two.

SJ Jalousie louvres met the NCC requirements through their geometry instead, with no restrictors or added hardware. Safe, secure, and still open to the breeze.

Last week, our Specification Manager Margaux and National Business Manager Romile joined ADCO Constructions at their Victorian Trade Partners Event. Great projects start with strong partnerships. Thanks to the ADCO team for bringing the industry together.

The hardest part of a smoke ventilation brief isn't always the engineering. Sometimes it's making the system belong.

At Skye by Pikos, the motorised life safety louvres and the manual natural ventilation units share the same bronze acoustic laminate and the same visual language. In a luxury residential development, that consistency was critical.

Performance is a technical problem with a known answer. Making it sit quietly against travertine and timber is a design problem, and it has to be solved while the glazing schedule is still open.

Designed by Conrad Gargett and Arkhefield for Pikos Group. Built by Tomkins Commercial.

Warmer weather is when windows open. It's also when children are most likely to fall from them.

Most windows manage the risk with a restrictor that locks the sash at 125 mm, and most of the airflow goes with it.

Louvres spread ventilation across every blade, so a safe opening doesn't have to mean a stuffy room.

SJ Jalousie is independently tested for protection of openable windows. If you're specifying for a school or apartment project, we're happy to talk through the tested configurations.

The 2026 Good Design Award winners were announced this week, which made us look back at our own journey: two Good Design Award accolades for Safetyline Jalousie.

For us, good design goes beyond how a façade looks. It's how a building breathes, performs and lasts. Being recognised for that twice is something our whole team is proud of.

Congratulations to this year's winners.

720 SJ Jalousie louvres across 40 storeys at York & George, Sydney.

John Wardle Architects specified them for the tower's wintergardens. Open, they bring in fresh air while still meeting fall-prevention requirements. Closed, they block wind, weather and city noise, reaching Rw 33 on this project and up to Rw 35 with Hush laminate glass.

Australian-made by Safetyline Jalousie.

NRL Grand Final weekend is here. 🏉

It wasn't the Dragons' season, but the foundations for the next one are already in place. Their new high performance centre by populous gives the squad a space built to thrive, with 18 SJ Espacer louvres bringing fresh air deep into the training floor.
