While we've been busy with our big launch news on socials over the past couple of weeks, big things have been happening in the workshop too, with some impressive bespoke joinery taking shape for our Clovelly project with Madeleine Blanchfield Architects and Venari Projects.

Stage 3 is currently in production, with the workshop filling with an impressive collection of large-format timber joinery. Among the pieces captured here is a 5.63 metre-wide fixed window unit, but even that gives only a sense of the scale of what is being manufactured across the project.

Delivered over six stages, the Clovelly residence includes a number of substantial window and door units, with the largest extending over 9 metres in width.

At this scale, every element demands careful planning and precision – from fabrication and glazing through to handling, transport and installation. It's the kind of technically ambitious work that makes for an impressive sight on the workshop floor.

"Having worked across different areas of Acacia over the years, I've seen firsthand the amount of work that goes into developing our products.

With Fortique™, the goal was to give architects and homeowners the option to use Australian hardwood windows and doors on projects where BAL-FZ requirements apply.

A lot of these projects are in or around the Australian bush, so there's something pretty fitting about being able to use Australian hardwoods in these environments, rather than having to compromise on material selection to meet performance requirements.

It's taken a significant amount of development, refinement and independent testing to get here, and I'm proud of what the team has achieved.

There is a wonderful sense of retreat to Birra Birra House, where timber, stone and lush planting come together against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour.

Acacia crafted a suite of bespoke timber windows and doors for the home, including fixed-pane and louvre windows, sliding and French doors, and sliding timber batten doors to the boathouse. Designed to make the most of the waterfront setting, the joinery frames expansive harbour views while reinforcing the home’s relaxed connection to the landscape.

There’s plenty taking shape in the workshop for Acacia's Paddington project with Pohio Adams and Kinn Construction.

The project is being delivered across four stages, with Stages 2 and 3 currently in production. Crafted in Flooded Gum and primed ready for a painted finish on site, the joinery includes casement and double-hung windows, hinged and sliding doors, a large bi-parting cavity slider and an extensive collection of timber shutters.

The shutters are a particularly strong feature of the project, with finely crafted louvred panels being incorporated across both windows and doors. There are plenty of individual components involved, making precision and consistency especially important as each stage moves through production.

Among all that traditional craftsmanship is one rather contemporary detail too – a neatly integrated doggy door within one of the glazed door panels.

Western Red Cedar brings warmth and softness to the architecture, while Blackbutt sills add contrast and durability in areas more exposed to the elements.

The joinery helps strengthen the connection between the interiors and the landscape beyond, while supporting the home’s natural ventilation and response to its coastal setting.
