Lilacs & Lou Furniture Just like people, furniture pieces have a story, a journey; and just like people, it deserves to be reimagined. That's where I step in.

{SOLD}This exquisitely made Drexel Heritage set was part of the Travis Court Collection produced from the 1940s into the 1950s.

When I picked it up, it was clear it had been beautifully cared for. Apart from a broken foot I had to replicate, you could never have guessed its age.

The combination serpentine and bow front design, is so dreamy. I believe serpentine dressers look good in every colour, but a dark olive green was speaking to me.

Also, the lovely thing about nightstands from this era (and earlier), is they tend to be taller because bed frames sat higher than what followed in the mid century. Fortunately this height fits our massive modern mattresses nicely (say that 3 times fast).

These beauties are available locally.

I didn’t think for one second that it would take 2 1/2 months to sell this beautifully inlaid dresser - but it did. It’s now moved out to be change table in a nursery. I like to think it will get to a part of that child’s life for a long, long time.

{SOLD} Well, that was a big job! 😅 Who needs the gym when you’re slinging around giant pieces of solid wood furniture?

I’m not complaining because Andrew Malcolm makes such beautifully constructed pieces, it’s a pleasure to work on them.

This set was originally done with a dark cherry finish (see the before pic).
To me, it felt a bit oppressive for their size, so I lightened them up using my all time favourite pale taupe.

The set came with just a single nightstand. Fortunately, I happened to have another nightstand with similar lines and pulls. It turned out to be the ideal addition to the band. The original nightstand was a bit shorter than the newest member, so I added small legs make them the same height.

There’s a whopping total of 20 drawers in this set - the storage possibilities are endless!

Grand in quality, size and style, this set is now sold.

Lowboy: 65.5”W x 20”D x 31.5”H
Highboy: 37.5”W x 21”D x 58”H
Nightstand: 24”W x 17”D x 26”H

Eeeee! It’s here! It’s here! 🥳

A year ago, I was contacted by the set design team of the Netflix show, My Life With The Walter Boys. I had already watched the first season, so I was excited, to say the least. They wanted this buffet, and sent their movers with cash in hand. It was a very smooth transaction, but then I had to wait (impatiently) for Season 2 to be filmed and released.

The wait is finally over, and the best part is, my piece appeared in first 9 minutes of episode 1! It’s hard to take a good still of a tv show, but I just had to share. This is beyond cool!!

{SOLD} The stunning details on this Henredon’s dresser were crying out to be released from their “shading lacquer prison” (see original photo), and I was thrilled to brandish the key (a.k.a stripper).

As part of Henredon’s 18th Century Portfolio Collection modelled in a Chippendale style, this piece is full of decadent features.

From the herringbone inlay on the top, to the shimmery chatoyance in the burled walnut and banded satin wood drawer fronts. Solid cherry mouldings add to the layered richness.

Can you tell I “wood geeked” out on this one? I keep going out to the garage to visit, it if that’s any indication.

Well, this regal gent is SOLD.

{SOLD}This Broyhill dresser has great, solid wood construction, but it needed help escaping its drabness.
(Check out the before ➡️).

As the first order of business, I constructed a custom solid oak base and legs, to lift it off its plinth base.
(I missed getting that pic).

Next, I brought the top back to raw. Naturally there were colour differences between the new oak base and the existing solid oak and veneer. Applying a variety of gel stains, I achieved a cohesive tone for all (counting that one a win 🙌🏼).

Then I mix up this pretty, light sage green paint colour by using up a few partial jars. (another win in my book)

Lastly, new hardware and drawer liners completed the update.

{SOLD} Although there is no maker’s mark, the stamp on the back informs us this oak dresser was made in Canada in July of 1984. True to its 80’s roots, it came with some unique features.

Firstly, although the construction is solid wood, it was built strangely short in height, and was on castors. Castors? Really 80’s, is that what a person wants on their dresser??
I say, no thank you.

What I was drawn to however, were the deep top drawers with an angled detail, and the cool pulls. Once I got the old golden orange finish removed (➡️see the before pic), I was free to create a more modern stain colour. I added legs to bring the height up to standard, and refreshed those neat pulls.

Once a slightly weird and dated dresser, is now a contemporary piece that 💯 belongs in 2025.

{SOLD} This Drexel Furniture dresser and nightstand set is as solid as The Rock! Thanks to the solid ash and cherry construction, they may also be as heavy 😉💪🏼
This set is part of Drexel’s Adano Italian Neoclassical Collection, whose design elements are classic and timeless.

Although created for the bedroom, their elegance would fit beautifully in a dining or living room space.
