Not everything that comes through our shop is mass timber or heavy timber framing.

One of our current projects is a log gazebo — a nice change of pace and a reminder of the variety that comes with working with wood.

From DLT panels to heavy timber and logs, we enjoy finding the right approach for each project.

When we turned 20, we came up with a list of smaller fun projects we could take on — ideally ones that would have a community benefit. The whole team got involved and started brainstorming.

Some ideas became reality, like the wooden tricycles we made for local children’s programs. Others, like the sooden catapult, didn’t quite make it off the drawing board.

But one project we’re especially happy about is our Wood100 DLT apple press.

That’s right — we used Dowel Laminated Timber to build a big apple press. And it’s seen plenty of action over the past few years. It’s become a popular community resource and still comes in handy every apple season — including right now.

A special thank you to Sam, who has become our unofficial apple juice expert. He’s spent countless hours helping new users learn the press and has generously volunteered his property as the annual setup spot.

It’s a pretty good reminder that sometimes the smaller projects can have a lasting impact — especially when they bring people together.

We’re currently working on an extension to a home up at the ski hill — this time using mass timber DLT.

But seeing the project come together has us thinking back to another mountain home we had the chance to build: this beautiful custom timberframe.

A full Douglas fir timberframe, timber-and-steel trusses, a dramatic 34-foot free-span truss, and the architect’s unique “snowflake” structure made this one a particularly memorable project (find out more about this project on our website).

Different project. Different timber system. Same setting, and the same love for building with wood.

It’s always interesting to look back at the projects that shaped our work while seeing how timber construction continues to evolve.

Yesterday, our crew installed the mass timber DLT walls and roof, along with glulam beams, for a new second-storey addition above the garage at our local ski hill.

Installed in just one day — and is weather-tight, just in time for today's rain.

That's one of the advantages of prefabricated mass timber: efficient installation, less time exposed to the elements, and a beautiful solid wood structure taking shape.

We’re hiring: Shop Foreman

If you’re an experienced timberframer or carpenter who enjoys leading a crew, solving problems, and taking pride in quality craftsmanship, we’d like to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Shop Foreman to lead our timberframing and mass timber crew in the shop and on job sites, while staying hands-on with the work. This is a full-time, year-round position based in Donald, BC, with some travel to projects in BC and Alberta as required.

What we offer:

4-day work week
Flexible working schedule
$35–$40/hour
Medical & dental benefits
Company vehicles for work purposes
Fully funded training opportunities

A little bit of magic is taking shape in Village of Radium Hot Springs.

We’re building the unique wizard-hat roof for Woodcarver Park, a community project honouring the late Rolf Heer and his legacy as Radium’s beloved woodcarver. The playful roof will top the park’s two-storey treehouse and serve as its centrepiece.

It’s definitely not your everyday timber project — but that’s what makes it so much fun to build.
