It's our 42nd Anniversary this month and this is where we started.
251 Herring Cove Road in Spryfield. This burned out shell of a building sitting on a lot that's smaller than a box store Garden Center. Spryfield needed somewhere to buy a 2x4. We were eager to make that happen.
Fred & Lynn made a deal to occupy it...for $50,000 in 1984. No mortgage, inspections, lawyers or agents. I'm sure it was in writing somewhere...it was helpful to have a motivated seller (even though it wasn't even for sale)
They peeled back the burnt panelling, fixed what needed fixing with family & friends pitching in. Plus George...Our first paid employee.
Another handshake deal with a vendor in New Brunswick and a truckload mixed with plywood, drywall, lumber, nails and shingles showed up.
We were in business August 1984.
We outgrew that store location fast, but it'll always be where it all began...I can still smell the burnt wood. Probably still a little bit in there?
