Modern Aesthetic. Rustic Vibe.

In the Pacific Northwest, a building’s exterior must be a fortress against the elements, but it shouldn’t look like one. Modern West Coast architecture—inspired by landscapes like our home in Squamish, BC—is defined by the balance between clean, contemporary lines and rugged, organic textures.

Featured is the Legacy Ridge development, designed by AKA Architecture + Design who has created a community that feels truly integrated into the mountain landscape.

By utilizing two-tone fiber cement shingles, part of the TrueGrain Series™, these homes achieve the premium, hand-crafted look of natural wood while offering the fire resistance and durability required for mountain living.

Elevate your exterior with the TrueGrain Series™.

Clad your home in Fisher’s Artisan WoodGrain™ and bring the warmth of a hand-crafted wood-look to your exterior walls. Artisan WoodGrain™ is specifically designed to emulate a premium woodgrain look for James Hardie’s Artisan® product line.

By pairing our unique organic texture with legendary durability, you get a facade that is incredibly tough but looks naturally soft and organic.
The Fisher Difference:

Two-Tone Finish: Our proprietary staining process coats the surface to create a multi-dimensional woodgrain look that radiates warmth.

Authentic Natural Variation: Fisher’s application process is based on our method for staining natural wood fibre products. This creates a unique finish on every board with no stripy or repetitive patterns—just the realistic, varied character and organic nature of real timber.

Protects Against the Elements: Our coating paired with the James Hardie Artisan substrate ensures your home’s vibrant finish and cladding stands up to weather exposure over time—including sun, wind, rain, snow, and pests.

Versatile Profiles: Achieve your specific architectural vision with V-Groove, Shiplap, or Square Channel profiles.

Trim Options: We offer various HardieTrim® Board dimensions in the same two-tone finish. Or, use your own trim of choice and self-apply our suggested paint colour matches to ensure a cohesive, high-end finish from corner to corner.

Built to withstand the elements. Appearance of a hand-crafted original.

Naut’sa Mawt — “Together as One”

We’re proud to have supplied the siding materials for the Naut’sa Mawt project, a five-storey, 40-unit affordable housing development in Courtenay, BC. Prioritizing Indigenous Elders, individuals, and people with disabilities—alongside the Wachiay Friendship Centre—this project truly embodies the spirit of its name: Naut’sa Mawt, meaning “together as one” in Coast Salish.

The exterior of the Naut’sa Mawt multi-family project features a thoughtful combination of all three of Fisher’s James Hardie fibre cement product lines—TrueGrain Series™, Artisan WoodGrain™ and TrueColour™ in program colours that emulate the use of real wood without the maintenance.

▪ Project Type: Multi-Family
▪ Architect: MacDonald Hagarty Architects Ltd.
▪ Builder: Kinetic Construction
▪ Exteriors: H&R Exteriors
▪ Photographer: Russell Dalby
▪ Award: 2025 Vancouver Island Commercial Building Awards - Affordable Housing

This thoughtful mix of tones, textures, and profiles brings a sense of rhythm and richness to the exterior while maintaining a cohesive and durable finish.

Products + Colours:
▪ Artisan WoodGrain™ - Hardie Artisan® 10.25” Hardie® Artisan Shiplap in Nootka Cedar
▪ TrueGrain Series™ - HardiePanel® Vertical Siding in Select Cedarmill texture + HardieTrim® Rustic Grain in Cedartone applied in a classic Board and Batten style
▪ TrueColour™ - HardiePanel® Vertical Siding in Rich Espresso

Indigenous artwork was commissioned for the exterior of the building, which took the form of a sun and a moon, oriented respectively on the east and west facades.

This building is an outstanding example of how all three of Fisher’s fiber cement product lines can be used together—each in different profiles, finishes, and application styles—to create contrast, depth, and architectural interest.

The BurntWood Collection—Shou Sugi Ban look for pre-stained cedar

Reveal the natural textural beauty of wood with the look of ancient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban.

▪ Products: 1×4 and 1×6 T&G 1/8 Gap
▪ Substrate: KD STK Western Red Cedar
▪ Applications: Exterior Siding, Interior Panelling, Accent Walls, Screening, Custom Battens

In working closely with the Architect and Design community on a wide range of aesthetically unique projects over the last several years Fisher has developed a new approach to Shou Sugi Ban (Burnt Wood).

Fisher recognises the beauty in revealing and enhancing existing wood grain patterns. We also understand the additional costs and challenges with creating, installing and protecting charred wood, which prohibits its use on many projects.

Fisher has created an enhanced version of Shou Sugi Ban through our proprietary mechanical and coating application process. The result is a beautifully enhanced grain pattern in each board in a wide range of colour combinations to suit virtually any architectural design.

The finished project provides many similar benefits to traditionally produced Shou Sugi Ban without the high cost and challenges in handling and installation.
