Gear machining process selection starts from drawing grade: Geyontech hobbing holds GB 6 to 7, shaping GB 5 to 6, shaving adds about one grade, and profile grinding reaches DIN 4 to 5.
Heat treatment deformation of gears reaches 0.01 to 0.05 mm, so the fixed sequence is rough machining, heat treatment, then finish machining such as profile grinding or gear honing.
The route called gear shaving before heat treatment improves the pre-shaving state by about one grade and suits final GB 6 to 7 requirements when profile grinding is not selected.
Internal gears, double gears, shouldered gears and splines can only use shaping, while external spur gears and helical gears can use all four routes.
A general gearbox gear marked DIN 7 to 8 can use hobbing plus heat treatment, while a DIN 4 to 5 drawing needs enough grinding allowance and profile grinding after heat treatment for low backlash and low noise.
Hardness: 20CrMnTi carburised HRC 58 to 63; 40Cr, 42CrMo, 45 # induction hardened HRC 50 to 55; 38CrMoAl, 40Cr nitrided HV 850 to 1100.
Racks follow a separate route of precision milling and grinding: a ground rack reaches DIN 6h25 with 0.036 mm total pitch error per 1000 mm, a precision-milled rack reaches DIN 8e27 at 0.08 mm and DIN 10e27 at 0.13 mm.
Common rack material is S45C and SCM440, with tooth surface high-frequency hardening at HRC 48 to 52 or tempering at HRC 18 to 20.
Geyontech external spur and helical gears cover module M0.5 to M20, and bevel gears are made to GB/T 11365 grade 5 to 6.
Worm gears cover Z1 to Z6 tooth forms.
Design and manufacturing engineers are invited to ask a technical question about module, tooth count, accuracy grade, heat treatment and operating condition.
