Fastener Materials
Fasteners are manufactured in a wide range of materials from common steel to titanium, plastic and other exotic materials, but almost 90% of all fasteners are made of carbon steel. A plain carbon steel is one in which carbon is the only alloying element added to the iron base.
Carbon Steel is inexpensive and it has a broad range of capabilities. That is why the majority of fasteners use carbon steel.
The amount of carbon in the steel controls its hardness, strength, and ductility.
That is why these fasteners are classified into one of three groups: low carbon steel, medium carbon steel or alloy steel. Let’s take a closer look at Low Carbon Steel tomorrow . # Fastener material
