The importance of balanced moisture content of wood when making furniture!
In the production of furniture, it is very important to grasp the moisture content of various types of wood. Different woods have different moisture contents, which also explains why some wooden doors, wooden floors, wooden furniture and other wooden products will crack and deform after they are sold.
1. Wood moisture content
Under normal conditions, wood and its products will have a certain amount of moisture. my country defines the moisture content of wood as the percentage of the amount of moisture contained in wood to the weight of wood after absolute drying.
The moisture content can be calculated based on the weight of completely dry wood. The calculated value is called absolute moisture content and is referred to as moisture content (W, %). Calculation formula:
W=(Gs-Ggo)/ Ggo×100%
W——absolute moisture content of wood;
Gs——weight of wet wood;
Ggoo——weight of absolute dry wood.
2. The importance of understanding the moisture content of wood
After the wood products are made, the shape and materials will not change. At this time, the key factors that determine the internal quality of the wood products are mainly the moisture content of the wood and the drying stress. The manufacturing company needs to correctly understand the moisture content of the wood products. When the wood products reach the equilibrium moisture content during use, the wood at this time is least likely to crack and deform.
3. Wood drying, the drier the better?
When wood is placed in a certain environment for a long enough time, its moisture content will tend to an equilibrium value, which is called the equilibrium moisture content EMC of the environment. When the moisture content of wood is higher than the equilibrium moisture content of the environment, the wood will shrink by absorbing moisture, and vice versa, it will swell by absorbing moisture. Therefore, wood drying should be appropriate, not the drier the better. Different regions and different uses have different requirements for wood moisture content.
4. Balanced moisture content of wood
Since the balanced moisture content of wood in different places is different, consumers should consider the different environments when purchasing solid wood furniture. Do not buy across regions just to save money. Otherwise, southern wood will crack easily when used in the north, and northern wood will swell easily when used in the south.
