How to Choose a Genuine Supplier in China?
We encountered a frustrating and infuriating situation: someone was using our product images and catalogs to impersonate us and contact buyers. This made us realize that in this age of information overload, not only are buyers easily deceived by fake suppliers, but the reputation of genuine suppliers is also damaged by imposters.
As a reputable Chinese factory, we decided to write this article to help overseas buyers see through our facade and choose genuine suppliers.
I. Why Do Fake Suppliers Succeed?
Fake suppliers typically do the following:
Steal product images, certificates, and factory videos from legitimate factories
Fabricate fake company names and addresses
Attract buyers with low prices, then fail to ship or send substandard products after receiving payment
They exploit buyers' tendency to "only look at the price, not the background."
II. Six Key Steps to Identify Genuine Suppliers
1. Reverse Image Search
Upload the product images provided by the other party to Google Images or Baidu Image Search. See if the images appear on multiple different company websites. If so, it is highly likely that the images are stolen.
2. Request a Video Factory Visit
Have the supplier conduct a real-time video call with you, showcasing:
The production workshop (with a daily newspaper or hand gestures to confirm real-time status)
Physical inventory
Office environment. Fake suppliers typically cannot provide genuine video factory visits.
III. What are genuine suppliers like?
Taking ourselves as an example:
Willing to accept video visits, factory visits, and third-party audits
Able to provide historical export records and customer reviews (verifiable upon contact)
Reasonable prices, neither inflated nor outrageous
Having a long-term business plan, not just short-term profit-seeking
