It was an absolute pleasure meeting John Bradley and Martin Smith of Streetly yesterday. Their M4000 unit is truly a masterpiece of engineering and certainly the best Mellotron design ever produced. John’s glorious MK1 wasn’t half bad either! Thank you both for all the advice and parts, I’m excited to lace some new tapes for my machines.

I’m currently working on some Mellotron restorations and finding that many of my cabinet panels have warped, so I took measurements from three different M400 units and reproduced the panels in clear acrylic. I can also do Baltic Birch Plywood for the original look, but I thought it would be cool to see the tapes move while playing! I am now taking orders on these if anyone is interested in a front/rear set or single.

The birth of guitar distortion as we know it today is thanks to this pioneering fuzz circuit. In 1962, the Maestro Fuzz Tone (FZ-1) was released in a compact self-contained effect pedal as well as integrated into a Gibson bass guitar called the EB-OF. These pieces from my collection are among the earliest examples from the first year of production. While not the most exciting fuzz effect when compared to modern standards, it holds a special place in my heart for its historical significance. For more on this topic, I recommend checking out the recent complete history of guitar effects episode 2 with and

Said goodbye to this gorgeous Gibson G101 today! This organ received the full treatment and boy it was a whirlwind of a restoration. Previous repair attempts left the contact board snapped into two pieces and an ugly repair for a broken key frame hook. Huge shoutout to for the brand new key frame and Greg at Cranky’s for helping to epoxy the contact PCB properly. Along with the new key bushings and adjustments, the action feels great now. Rebuilt power supply and percussion opto circuit, recapped bass, vibrato, and voicing boards. New detachable grounded power cord, expression pedal bypass switch, and pedal sweep mod. On to the next one, thanks Mark!

This past week I drove up to Canada to meet the extremely talented and experience his incredible collection of Mellotrons. This included the exceedingly rare MK1 dubbed “Julia” which was previously owned by the “Mellotron Professor” Jerry Korb. I am also thrilled and honored to announce that I have acquired Jerry’s 3-year labor of love, the JK-MK6. A custom built hybrid Mellotron from two M400 units previously owned by the bands Mountain and ELO. It shares construction features of nearly all models and includes 2x10” speakers, 40W power amplifiers, stereo panning, active EQ, and spring reverb. The sound that comes out of this machine is as massive as the impact Jerry had on the Mellotron community. I plan to help carry on his legacy as caretaker of this wonderful unit. Thanks to Antoine for his hospitality and making this dream possible.

Recently restored this super rare Fender Pedal Bass Synth for . The entire control panel had to be rebuilt with new switches, and LEDs to replace the original busted lamps. It also received a full recap, tuning, and adjustment of all the pedals to ensure proper operation of the reed switches. In my research, these pedals only show up on Fender pricelists from 1970 to 1971 and were designed by Peterson. They sound great when all fixed up! A little Crankys amp spray really made them shine like new too.

There are currently two Gibson G101s and a Kalamazoo K101 in the shop right now! So here’s a before and after of the power supply rebuild I’m doing on each. Old can capacitors are replaced with discrete high quality radial capacitors on a simplified terminal strip layout. All new rectifier diodes, new resistors where necessary. Last but not least, removal of the death cap and a new grounded power cable rewired to modern electrical standards. I’m using an IEC inlet cable to eliminate having a long hardwired cord without any modifications to chassis or organ. This makes it safe and practical!

For this Vox Continental restoration I’m using one of our custom power supply panels to update to a 3-conductor grounded cable. We have these custom cut and anodized black to provide a sleek upgrade to the original plastic part. It also allows the owner to keep the original panel intact so it can always go back to stock for any reason. These are a perfect fit for the Vox Jaguar too!

Here’s a close up look at the Gibson G101 output panel and the so called pedal hotwire modification. The G101 requires its original multi-pin expression pedal to pass signal to an amplifier. This simple switch allows for normal operation in stock mode or the ability to bypass the pedal by connecting pins “B” and “C” on the amphenol connector.
