Fibre Network Update
I understand there have been some further concerns from local residents, particularly in the Seathwaite valley, about upcoming road closure for work involving Fibrus. I responded to similar concerns earlier last year and want to explain again the reasons behind the ongoing plans.

Fibrus continue to make steady progress with installing the fibre network and when completed, it will be of huge benefit to our local community. They have connected over half of the contracted premises throughout Cumbria (about 36,000 premises out of 54,000) and our local area is now well on the way to completion.

There is more work planned over the coming weeks and some of it will lead to travel disruption and road closures. Details are available via the “OneNetwork” website - https://one.network/. Clicking on the closure permit allows you to check which utility provider has applied for the closure.

There will be access for locals during the listed closure periods and the workmen will intend to keep restrictions to a minimum where possible. They can't just simply block access to residents completely when there are no alternative diversions. The problem is due to the narrow width of the roads around here and any contractors, including Fibrus contractors, wanting to do work HAVE to apply for road closures through the council.

It's not a choice, they HAVE to do it, whether or not the road will actually be completely closed or not. There may just be work on part of the road but they have to apply to close it. And they often have to apply for more time than they actually need. In reality, there may be times where there are some delays but it is not necessarily as drastic as it sounds. There have been a number of notifications in our area over recent months listed as "closures" which have not materialised to the full extent of that publicised.

Do get in touch with me or contact Fibrus directly via the HyperfastGB contact page on their website - https://hyperfastgb.com/ I will pass on any concerns to Fibrus and ensure that they are noted.

When it gets to the time of an anticipated closure, please communicate with any engineers you see, express your travel needs and let them know times etc and they should be able to try and work around things. They will have an obligation to consider emergency vehicle access too, don't forget, so there are ways of making it work.

Welcome to Hyperfast GB – home for information and updates on our roll out plans for bringing Full Fibre broadband (delivered by Fibrus) to rural communities through Project Gigabit.

Fibrus are interested in hearing feedback from new broadband customers about their experiences.
Residential or business customers, either an individual or a group - they are keen to hear where Full Fibre has made a noticeable difference to you.
If you would be willing to share, please reply to this post or PM me, Emma Hatton.
Many thanks

I was invited to join our local Fibrus representatives Libby and Andrew as they met our MP Michelle Scrogham on site today, just outside Broughton.
Viberoptix have been working this week to install more cabling to continue working towards linking up more properties onto the network.
I am aware there have been road closures again this week in order for this work to be carried out, but please bear with the situation. The engineers are making steady progress and it is going to be of huge benefit to our local community when the fibre network is fully installed.

There has been a recent enquiry from a local resident expressing concerns about a proposed road closure for work involving Viberoptix. I thought I'd post my reply here too because it will apply to other similar local closures.

There will be access for locals during the listed closure periods and the workmen will intend to keep restrictions to a minimum where possible. They can't just simply block access to residents completely when there are no alternative diversions. Update on Fibre Broadband in and around Broughton.
Fibrus are continuing to progress with the planning for fibre broadband in our area. They are looking to finalise the routes to some of the outlying areas of Broughton in the coming months.

A lot of it will use existing infrastructure and there will be some new wayleaves to discuss too. Their wayleave officer, Lewis McLean, has visited Broughton Mills this week and is looking to negotiate wayleaves for access over private land. Wayleaves for other areas will be covered soon too. He is very aware of the local terrain and infrastructure and willing to discuss the different options available.

I have helped to identify the landowners involved and he will be in touch with them to discuss further.

If you see any Fibrus or Viberoptix engineers around our area, please do chat to them to find out more about their plans near your property and raise any concerns you may have. The more we communicate about this, the easier it will be for any problems to be resolved.

Please be aware there will continue to be road closures as the Fibrus contractors continue their work in Broughton and the surrounding area.

This work is for the benefit of the local community and our need for better connectivity.

I know it can seem to cause disruption but please be patient, the contractors will try and accommodate passage through, especially for school buses and residents where they can. It might just be a case of waiting until it’s safe to pass. I’ve made Fibrus aware of local concerns and this will be communicated to the contractors.

The road closures might not necessarily be for the whole week but Fibrus need to apply for the whole block of time in case.

Use your local road knowledge for diversion options where possible.

As before, planned closures are available on the One Network website.

There are a number of new Fibrus installations going live around Broughton. Most are going without a hitch. However, as with all new technology like this there can be some teething problems.
If any local residents do experience difficulties, either with understanding your options to do with installation or any problems following connection, then do follow this up with Fibrus directly through customer services.
If you’re still struggling, contact Libby Bateman, our local Fibrus rep on
