We’ve seen a real increase in enquiries these past few weeks. This side of the business has been a challenging venture for us, but it’s certainly not one we’re giving up on.
Over the winter we’re planning to invest in more machinery and expand what we can offer through Reid Contracts Hire — giving our customers even more choice, whether that’s kit we have in stock or something sourced quickly through our reliable cross-hire partners.

🌿 We’re Hiring! Join the Reid Contracts & Darren Reid Gardening Services Team 🌿

We’re looking to grow our team ahead of the 2026 season!
We’ll be recruiting 1 x full-time permanent and 1 x full-time/part-time temporary position starting mid-March 2026 ideal for anyone wanting a solid fresh start before the busy growing season begins.

Our work spans Reid Contracts Limited and Darren Reid Gardening Services Ltd, with flexible roles across both companies - including occasional support for our Reid Contracts Hire division (helping with machinery deliveries and collections).

🌱 The Role
Daily tasks will include:
Grass cutting and strimming
W**d control and herbicide applications
General garden and grounds maintenance
Assisting with landscaping, small works, and seasonal tasks
Occasional machinery delivery/collection via our hire division
You’ll be working across both private and commercial sites, so a good eye for detail and pride in your work are essential.

🔧 Requirements
Confident and experienced in general grounds/garden maintenance
Full clean UK driving licence (towing experience preferred)
Confident operating a range of garden and grounds machinery
PA1/PA6, trailer licence, or machinery tickets are preferred but not essential – training will be provided
Must be reliable, hardworking, and able to maintain high standards of workmanship and safety at all times

We get a lot of first-time hire enquiries, so here are a few of the most common questions answered 👇

1️⃣ How do I book a machine?
We try to keep it easy — you can hire in whatever way suits you:

We’ll confirm availability, walk you through what’s needed, and get you booked in. Simple as that.

2️⃣ Do I need to provide ID to hire?
Yes — we ask all private customers to provide photo ID when booking. A driving licence or passport is perfect.

✅ Once you’ve hired from us and we’ve got your details on file, you won’t need to show ID again unless anything changes.

If you're opening a business account, this is a one-time setup too.

3️⃣ Do I need hired-in plant insurance?
If you're hiring as a business, then yes — we’ll need to see a copy of your hired-in plant insurance before we release any equipment.

If you're hiring as a private customer, you don’t need this insurance — but you’ll be fully responsible for the machine while it’s on hire, including damage or loss.

We’ll always walk you through what’s expected before you take anything away — and we’re here to help if you’re unsure.
