Another green roof project we’re proud to have been involved in ⭕

McGee House demonstrates how the right waterproofing system can support both ambitious architectural design and long-term sustainability goals.

Built as a Passivhaus-certified home in Chepstow, the project required a roofing solution capable of delivering exceptional thermal efficiency whilst providing the ideal base for a large integrated green roof.

So why was Polyroof specified?

This time last week we attended the NFRC UK Roofing Awards, where KPMF was shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Green Roofing’ category ⭕🙌

We were proud to see this fantastic project recognised alongside Haran Roofing Ltd, whose teamwork helped ensure the successful delivery of this impressive green roof installation.

So why was Polyroof specified for the project?

The client required a waterproofing solution that could support a large-scale modular green roof whilst delivering long-term performance, thermal efficiency and a fast installation programme.

Our Protec Warm Roof System was specified thanks to its:
• Compatibility with green roof systems
• Seamless, fully reinforced waterproof protection
• Root resistant properties, removing the need for an additional root barrier
• RapidCure technology for quicker installation and reduced downtime
• Long-term durability with a BBA life expectancy of 30+ years

Installed beneath more than 4,000 sedum trays across a complex 10-degree pitched roof, the system provided a durable and thermally efficient waterproofing solution that perfectly supported the project’s sustainability goals.

Fire safety is determined at specification stage - and it must be assessed across the entire roof build-up, not just the waterproofing layer.

Under BS EN 13501-5 (Test 4), flat roof systems are evaluated as a complete assembly. The highest classification, BROOF(t4), confirms:

• No fire pe*******on for 60 minutes
• Controlled flame spread
• Minimal post-flame effects

Independent testing shows that full build-ups incorporating Protec and Protec Evolve can achieve BROOF(t4) when specified correctly, providing confidence in both compliance and performance.

Where enhanced fire resilience is required, A1/A2 non-combustible insulation can be incorporated to support alignment with Approved Document B.
