We had a great night down at the sheesh Mahal last night to celebrate John and Linda's 13th wedding anniversery, lucky for us!!

The onion bhaji were popular and went down well, I had chicken tikka for a change, lovely and moist and very tasty!

My Keema, chicken laziz was, as always, perfect, that's a 10 from Me!

John had chicken karahi which was mega rich with a really strong flavour, he loved it!

Linda had a cracking keema byriani, fluffy rice that, with the mince and sauce made for great eating!

And Linda (another one!) Had a keema balti, I didn't taste this one, but it looked bloody tasty!!!

With cobra, kingfisher, white wine and a fruit based beverage for the lady, the night was complete!

And it always makes it for me when you are welcomed on walking in, to the owner with the biggest of smiles and warmest of greetings as he is genuinely glad to see you back!!

As he often says to us which just sums the sheesh up for me,

'welcome home'

Well, last night saw a few of us hit the Aagrah, Aberford Road, LS25 2HF. (Dave Eric Close, Brian Spencer , Simon D'Vali and myself)

We went as a last minute booking after the two for ten quid deals had finished.

We had a warm greeting and they were very quick to make room for Brian who is a wheelchair user, and to be honest, pretty s**t at driving it in a straight line after a couple of pints 😁)

The poppadom and pickle tray was nice, but for the size of the table two pickle trays would have stopped us having to lean over and would certainly have meant Brian could have got some.

We decided to all share a couple of sizzling mixed platters for starters. Which consisted of; chicken pieces, fish pieces, sheek kebab, lamb chops and a mountain of onions, all sizzling away on the red hot plate. All the meats we nice and cooked to a good standard. The onions were a little raw and could have done with either a bit longer on the sizzle or a bit of pre-cooking.

For mains we ordered; lamb karahi, chicken karahi (one normal and one dry) and a main course sizzling mixed grill. Chapatti and rice accompanied.

All washed down with various lagers and soft drinks.

Great service and for all of the above it came to 56 quid. I suspect they gave us a meal deal of sorts.

Overall we scored the evening a 7.6. However, Simon only gave it a 6. (He’s one tough audience to impress)

The main thing was the food was shared with good friends talking absolute bollox...which is always a 10/10 for me.

Last night's curry road trip was to the Bengal Brasserie, Burley, Leeds!

SHORT VERSION - great little place, brilliant staff and awesome food!!

LONG VERSION - Unlike the huge, sprawling BB in Leeds, this is an altogether more intimate affair, with brilliant friendly staff, a well stocked bar, and some bloody gorgeous food on offer!

Of the six of us we got onion bhajis, paneer pakora (bloody lovely and massive portion), seek kebab and lamb chops (plenty of meat on then and slightly charred n spicy) to start!

various mains were to follow, I went for the murg kandahari which is bbq chicken and keema, a little bit different and really tasty, one of the best keemas I think I've ever had!

Sam had the special mix karahi (chicken, lamb and prawns) which was really tasty and mega, mega rich!

Linda had the Mahdu chicken, which had mango, pineapple, sultanas and almonds in it, and although it was a mild one it wasn't overly sweet as it had honey rather than coconut in it, tasty and very moreish!

Jan and Andrea both got chicken dhansak, and luckily they only ate one portion, so I'll let you know what it's like when I've had the other for dinner!!

I don't know what Dave had as I was quite merry by then!

There were then the nanns, rice, chips and my 3 chapatis,

all topped of with a free round at the bar, so I had dram buie, which finished the Night (and me) off perfectly!

Highly recommended!

8.5/10

A Sunday teatime visit to zam zams in Leeds turned out, once again, to be a rather splendid idea!

A great 'down to earth' little place at the side of the zam zams takeout, it's got more of a cafe feel to it than a posh resteraunt!

But what it may lack in chandeliers and Egyptian themed toilets it more than makes up for with it's food, it's atmosphere, and it's lovely staff!!

I started with their onion bhaji, which is my fave and unlike any other I've had, while Dave went for the shami kebab!

Mains were keema spinach for me and chicken madras (with plenty of chillis) for Dave, served with 3 chapatis each, and it was bloody lovely, beautifully strong flavours with a super rich taste!!

As always, the owner came through to have a little chat with us and wish us well!

Been going in here, and its been the same owner, for about 30 years now and its still one of ours faves!

Chapatis stats - 3 free with every curry!!

Zam zams gets a 8.5 from us!!
