A pattern that looks perfect on a sample card can feel completely different across four walls.

Our UK-based Designer in Residence Naomi Wheeler treats wallpaper as a starting point rather than a finishing touch. She builds a room's entire color palette from a pattern's quieter tones, uses bold prints to make small spaces feel immersive instead of cramped, and reads how natural light will shift a wallpaper's character before she ever specifies it.

Her thinking on scale, pattern hierarchy, and working with (not against) a room's light is worth the read if wallpaper is part of your next project.

Eight decades on, mid-century modern still tops the wish list. Not because it's trendy, but because it works: warm timber, low-slung furniture, a room that pulls you in rather than asking you to admire it from the doorway.

UK designer Naomi Wheeler puts it simply: it gives a space a members' club quality, without the exclusivity. Just considered.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Swatchbox Sample Gallery, grabbed a Design Folio, stopped by Brew House, enjoyed ice cream on Clerkenwell Green, or simply took the time to connect with our team during Clerkenwell Design Week 2026.
