Great day at the BCM Specifier Summit at Knebworth House and Barns yesterday! The event was fantastic - many thanks to BCM Agency Ltd for organising, and we're proud to have sponsored this year's summit themed "Rethinking Materials. Redefining Construction."
The keynote from Michael Ramage (Professor of Architecture and Engineering at University of Cambridge) offered real insight into innovative uses of timber as a replacement for concrete and steel. As manufacturers of premium wood-based acoustic panels, it was inspiring to hear how timber solutions can improve building performance whilst supporting not just sustainability but also restorative and regenerative goals.
Equally valuable were the conversations with architects, specifiers, and fellow professionals across the industry. It's clear we're all navigating similar challenges around material selection, performance, and sustainability.
One recurring message throughout the day really stood out: *The importance of involving all parties early in the design process.*
Too often, acoustics is treated as an afterthought - addressed with remedial panels after the design is locked in. This limits opportunities to integrate high-performance, aesthetically refined solutions that work seamlessly with the architecture.
When acoustic specialists are brought in during early design stages, we can consider spatial geometry, material placement, sound absorption requirements, and aesthetic goals simultaneously. This approach improves acoustic outcomes, often reduces costs, and creates more elegant, sustainable solutions.
If you're exploring ways to optimise building acoustics through early-stage collaboration, or want to discuss how premium timber acoustic solutions can elevate your next project - get in touch.
