Last week, Mikey from the GTSE marketing team headed down to London for the Re: Commerce SEO Conference - and what a great day it was!

Loads of really interesting talks throughout the day, especially from Rory Sutherland and other SEO experts, all focused on how search is changing and what businesses need to be doing to keep up in the evolving ecommerce world.

Big thanks to Re:signal for having us - hopefully we’ll be back again next year!

Last week, the GTSE team headed to Barry’s Bootcamp for a session outside the office.

Safe to say it was tougher than expected, but a great way to do something different as a team. Thanks to the Barry’s team for the session.

Tom, our Director, was at B2B eCommerce World UK & Europe 2026 in London last week. Good sessions on where B2B eCommerce is heading and how manufacturers and distributors are adapting.

There were some fantastic insights that we're already looking to implement at GTSE.

🟦 Why do food factories use blue cable ties?

If you’ve ever worked in food production, you may have noticed that many cable ties used around machinery are bright blue.
This is intentional.

Blue nylon cable ties are commonly used because blue rarely occurs naturally in food. If a cable tie breaks or accidentally enters a production line, the colour makes it much easier to visually spot during inspections.
For environments that require an additional layer of protection, metal detectable cable ties are often used. These contain small metal particles that allow them to be identified by metal detection systems on production lines.

Using blue for visibility, and metal detectable materials for machine detection helps support contamination prevention and food safety procedures in food processing environments.
Sometimes even the smallest components play an important role in maintaining food safety.

‼️5 things most people get wrong when buying cable ties

1. Choosing the wrong length
Measure your bundle's circumference and add at least 50mm. Too short and it won't close properly. Too long and you're wasting material and creating unnecessary tails.

2. Ignoring tensile strength
Tensile strength tells you how much weight a cable tie can hold before breaking. A 2.5mm wide tie holds around 8kg. A 4.8mm holds 22kg. A 7.6mm heavy-duty tie holds up to 54kg. Match the strength to your application.

3. Using the wrong material for the environment
Standard nylon cable ties work great indoors, but they degrade quickly in sunlight. For outdoor use, choose UV-stabilised or black UV-resistant ties. For extreme heat, chemicals, or corrosive environments, stainless steel is your best option.

4. Forgetting temperature limits
Standard nylon cable ties operate between -40°C and +85°C. Outside that range, they become brittle or soft. If you're working in freezing conditions or near heat sources, check the temperature rating before you buy.

5. Bulk buying without checking specs
A 1,000-pack or a box deal might look like a bargain, but it's worthless if the ties are the wrong size, strength, or material for your job. Always check the specifications match your application before ordering in bulk.

Getting the right cable tie saves time, prevents failures, and avoids costly rework.
