Last month’s Fassarend Approved Applicator training at Scotcast in North Lanarkshire was a fantastic event, with a great turnout across both days.

Applicators joined Area Sales Manager John Cummings, along with Paddy McKeown and Jamie Benson for technical guidance, live demonstrations and plenty of hands-on training with the Fassarend system.

How do you build 25 new homes in one of the UK's most historic villages without losing the character that makes it special?

That was the challenge facing Hartog Hutton at The Paddocks in Suffolk, where each home was individually designed to sit comfortably alongside the village's traditional architecture.

It's a development that's recently earned recognition, winning Best Medium Volume New Housing Development for East Anglia at the 2026 Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards. More than 30 external contractors and suppliers played a part in bringing The Paddocks to life.

We worked with Hartog Hutton's director, Malcolm Payne, and approved render applicators Rob and Josh from CTC Plastering on the external finishes. Daniel Baxter specified a BDA-certified Fassa Bortolo painted render system, chosen for its durability and the flexibility to achieve a contrasting two-colour finish.

Materials were supplied by Cornell Building Supplies Ltd in Bury St Edmunds. We've got all fingers crossed for Hartog Hutton at the LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London in January!

Our National CPD Specialist, Daniel Baxter, is in Oldham today with Area Sales Manager Scott Fleming. They’re delivering a private CPD for the talented team at Belal Rashid Technical Architecture (BRTA).

Today’s session will get into two areas where small details make a big difference: subfloor preparation and render systems for timber frame construction.

The aim is to build added confidence around some of the specification decisions BRTA is involved in every day. The team will leave knowing exactly what needs to be right beneath a floor before the finish goes down, as well as what really matters when specifying render for timber frame, from moisture and movement to compatibility and long-term protection.

The tiles might be the first thing you notice, but the finish relies on everything used to install them.

For this bathroom project in Solihull, Tile Demand used Fassa Bortolo AZ 59 adhesive across the floors and walls, with Fassafill Small grout and Fassasil sealant to complete the installation.

A really strong finished result and a great example of the system working together, from first fixing right through to finishing.

For architects, specifiers and builders working on timber frame construction, the right render build-up is essential to creating a durable, stable and long-lasting finish.

This Wednesday 14th October 2026, our UK National CPD Specialist, Daniel Baxter, will be presenting an online CPD on Render Systems for Timber Frame Construction.

Part of DCE CPD’s New Build Day, the session will show how to specify and detail render systems for timber frame construction with greater confidence, from creating a stable substrate through to getting critical detailing right.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to specify robust render systems for timber frame construction, spot the details that can compromise performance and make more confident decisions around certification and installation.
