香港首棟全竹集成材建築——香港沙田社區聯絡中心


香港首棟竹集成材建築——沙田馬料水海濱長廊社區聯絡中心-"地海森居"，為兩層竹集成材框架結構，建築面積為298 平方米，建築高度為 5.6 米，屋頂鋪設了太陽能光伏面板與透明玻璃面板。該項目的結構設計由《結構工程學報》主編、南京林業大學李海濤教授團隊負責，並與香港竹福國際（集團）有限公司(BIL)及奧雅納（ARUP）聯合設計完成。項目於 2025 年 12 月開工，並於 2026 年年初完工，主要用於社區聯絡與公共服務。其使用的竹集成材則由贛州生產。

什麼是竹集成材？

竹子因具有低碳環保、可持續性強、生長快速，以及強度高等優點而備受建築界關注。然而，天然的原竹也存在一些缺點，例如尺寸不固定、中空結構容易開裂，以及使用壽命較短等。為了克服這些缺點，竹集成材（Laminated Bamboo Lumber）應運而生- 將速生、短週期的竹材加工成定寬、定厚的竹片或將原竹展平形成寬幅面竹單元（去除竹青和竹黃），經過處理（如炭化等）並乾燥至一定的含水率，再以膠合而成的竹材型材。竹集成材加工示意圖(見圖)，它不僅保留了竹材的天然紋理和低碳屬性，更透過工業化製程提升了力學穩定性與耐久性。隨著相關加工流程不斷成熟、結構設計規範逐步完善，以及人們對永續結構的需求日益增長，這種高性能材料在結構領域的應用空間必將更加廣闊，並有望在未來的機電包裝結構、貨櫃、建築、橋樑等領域發揮出更重要的作用。
香港沙田社區聯絡中心為雙層框架結構，採用「工廠預製+現場組裝」的施工模式，所有主要受力構件及連接節點均在工廠完成預製，現場僅需少量專業技術工人與小型吊裝設備即可完成組裝，顯著縮短了施工週期並降低了對週邊環境的干擾。

「預製-組裝」一體化建造模式應用於香港首座全竹整合材建築，是竹整合材在工程建設領域的典型工程實踐，更是工程竹材作為低碳結構材料應用於工程結構的重要案例，對工程竹結構的推廣具有重要參考意義。從有限元素模擬、結構設計、三維建模到現場施工的完整流程，從經濟與施工效率的角度來看，該專案的施工方案具備顯著的優越性。因此，本計畫不僅是展示工程竹結構施工效率與便利性的重要里程碑，更為後續工程竹結構在工程建設領域的應用提供了設計與施工經驗，對促進低碳結構材料的工程化應用與永續結構的發展具有積極的推動作用。

How Data-Driven Bamboo Engineering is Opening Up New Frontiers:
The Data That Makes Bamboo Bankable

A sustainability claim without verified data is marketing. With verified data, it is a bankable asset.
BIL's engineered bamboo products are backed by stringent LCA exercises by BSSI and independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) published through the International EPD System, with the underlying Life Cycle Assessment conducted in full compliance with EN 15804+A2 and ISO 14040/14044. This is not generic database work — it is supplier-specific, project-specific, auditable data.

The numbers tell a compelling story. At the Product Stage (A1–A3), engineered bamboo delivers a net-negative Global Warming Potential of −0.84 kg CO₂e/kg — a true carbon sink. Compared to structural steel (1.4–2.23 kg CO₂e/kg), that represents a reduction of 139–161%, exceeding 100% because bamboo is net-negative while steel is net-positive. When Design for Disassembly enables 90% - 100% direct reuse, Module D transforms the building from a demolition liability into a material bank with quantifiable residual value.

But the real power of this data lies in what it unlocks. BSSI's LCA results map directly onto Europe's converging regulatory and financial frameworks: the EU Taxonomy's climate mitigation and circular economy criteria, CSRD/ESRS disclosure requirements for audit-ready Scope 3 and circular economy reporting, and the Carbon Removal Certification Framework's biogenic storage thresholds. For Hong Kong's pioneering bamboo building, BSSI voluntarily aligned with these standards — not out of obligation, but because we want to showcase our capabilities to international investors who demand this level of data fidelity to underwrite green finance.

Reliable and verified LCA data is the bridge between engineering performance and financial value. It converts a sustainable building into government incentives and sustainable finance eligibility. It is what turns low-carbon construction from a cost into an investment.

How Data-Driven Bamboo Engineering is Opening Up New Frontiers:
Fire and Water: Pushing Bamboo to Its Performance Frontiers

The two toughest questions any bio-based material must answer: can it handle fire? Can it handle water?

BIL is answering both.

🔥 Fire. BIL has developed what it describes as the world's first carbon-storing fire door core, using bamboo biochar technology. The 30-minute fire-rated door is ready for deployment, with 60- to 90-minute rated versions currently in the prototyping stage. Performance is comparable to conventional metal and mineral-based cores — but with a critical difference: the biochar core is itself a long-term carbon sink once installed, storing carbon rather than emitting it. The target is up to 120 minutes of fire resistance, matching the most stringent building code requirements.

🌊 Water. On the opposite frontier, BSSI is collaborating with the University of Hong Kong on a marine durability and biocompatibility research programme, directly addressing the moisture resistance and mould resistance challenges that have historically limited bamboo's application in humid, tropical, and marine environments. This research is opening a pathway toward coastal infrastructure, marine structures, and tropical-climate applications — significantly expanding the addressable market for engineered bamboo.
From fire to water, BSSI's R&D programme is systematically closing the performance gaps that have kept bio-based materials on the margins of the construction industry.
