Irish Cement Platin Works held their first ever Safety Week, reinforcing the most important message across our sites: safety is about looking out for ourselves and each other, every day.

Throughout the week, employees and contractors took part in practical sessions, demonstrations and conversations designed to build awareness, confidence and encourage safer choices both at work and beyond.

The week began with a focus on working at height, including practical demonstrations and a powerful talk from James (Jimmy) Gorry, who shared his own personal experience and the lasting impact of not completing a job safely.

Fire Safety followed on Tuesday, with hands-on training sessions across site to build awareness around fire prevention and emergency response.

Wednesday was the main event of Safety Week, where we held an event in CityNorth Hotel & Conference Centre. Theatre at Work delivered an engaging, interactive reenactment, drawing the audience into a real‑life scenario that sparked discussion and reflection across our teams.

Thursday’s focus on conveyor safety reinforced the importance of controls, guarding and safe systems of work in preventing incidents on site. The week concluded with a wrap‑up event in our Mechanical Workshop with a BBQ and prizes, celebrating the brilliant engagement and collective effort shown throughout the week.

Safety Week matters because it creates time to pause, reflect and talk about what really matters: our people, the awareness we build together and the responsibility we all share to keep one another safe.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Safety Week and in particular well done to McEleavey Ann and David Carroll for organising a brilliant series of events
