On the occasion of National Agroforestry Day, 8th May, the Federation of Indian Plywood & Panel Industry (FIPPI) recognizes the vital role of agroforestry in building a sustainable, resilient, and self-reliant India.
Agroforestry supports:
✔️ Higher farmer incomes
✔️ Carbon sequestration & climate resilience
✔️ Reduced pressure on natural forests
✔️ Sustainable raw material supply for wood-based industries

On this National Agroforestry Day, FIPPI advocates for the nationwide implementation of a National Agroforestry Act to recognize farm-grown timber as distinct from forest produce, and promote simplified regulations, digital transparency, and access to carbon credit opportunities for farmers.
This would serve as a bold and transformative step to empower towards free inter-state and intra-state trade and commerce of farm wood🌿

🌳 *From 90% AGRIWOOD to 100% AGRIWOOD* 🌱

Tomorrow, 8th May, marks National Agroforestry Day — a reminder of the critical role agroforestry plays in building a greener and self-reliant India.

Today, nearly 90% of the raw material used by India’s plywood and panel industry comes from agroforestry timber, while only 10% is met through imports. This reflects the growing strength of India’s agroforestry ecosystem and the vital role played by farmers in supporting sustainable industrial growth.

At FIPPI, we believe the future lies in achieving 100% AGRIWOOD — a plywood and wood panel sector fully powered by sustainable agroforestry plantations.

More trees on farms means:
✔️ Higher farmer incomes
✔️ Reduced import dependence
✔️ Climate resilience
✔️ Sustainable industrial growth

Empowering farmers to grow trees is not just good for the environment — it is essential for India’s green economy.

🌍 Earth Day 2026 | Building a Greener Future with Sustainable Wood Products 🌱

On the occasion of Earth Day, it is important to recognize the role of sustainable materials in creating an environmentally responsible future. Among all major construction and interior materials, wood products remain one of the most sustainable choices—renewable, recyclable, carbon-storing, and energy-efficient.

The plywood and panel sector plays a vital role in advancing sustainability by transforming responsibly sourced timber, plantation wood, agroforestry resources, and wood residues into high-value products.

As the world moves toward climate-conscious development, the wood-based panel industry stands as a strong driver in the transition to a low-carbon and resource-efficient economy.

This Earth Day, let us choose materials that give back to the planet. Choose sustainably. Choose wood. 🌍💚

We should always deal in genuine BIS approved plywood products , consequences of wrong doing are

1. Seizure of lakhs & crores worth of goods. Money gets blocked , and hence dispute with suppliers could arise too.

2. BIS act comes into force , where FIR , huge penalty and jail term punishment along with goods seizure takes place. More monetary loss & more tensions.

3. The matter gets highlighted in newspapers , social media etc which could make other departments chasing the said party , along with buyers and whole chain getting acknowledged about the situation.

Better to work with genuine BIS approved products even if it costs 1-2% more, as it's always better to feel safe than sorry.

Escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia – one of the key markets for India’s plywood, panel & laminates industry – are disrupting export flows. 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 are forcing exporters to recall consignments, including those already in transit, to mitigate financial and delivery risks.

In response, the Government has eased provisions under the 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 (𝐁𝐓𝐓) 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 enabling exporters to bring back goods from ports and container depots with greater procedural ease and flexibility.

As mentioned by 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢 𝐉𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐤𝐚𝐫, 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐅𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐈, the Middle East remains a significant export destination for laminates; however, increasing shipping-related charges and prevailing uncertainty are compelling exporters to bring back goods. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 and a stable trade and logistics environment to safeguard the competitiveness and export momentum of India’s plywood, panel & laminates industry.
