We travel across India a lot, and during a last few travels, we have come across things that have made us think how the human spirit soars without the basest of necessities. How else, would ridiculously small children walk up a kachha road barefoot up a hill to school. Learn without books. Or young, hardy women walking for miles just to get a day’s stock of water. Or people, who will share their d
ay’s only meal with complete strangers, without a thought. We can change this a little, can’t we? We aim to provide, or assist the needy with the most basic stuff. To help those, who are already helping themselves but can do with a little push. Imagine a child walking up a hill, covered in warm clothing and shoes, not having to worry about small things we so take for granted. Imagine the delight that child will experience with an unread book in his or her hands. Or that household down the road, now equipped with a months’s provisions, can now concentrate on their child’s’ education. Or those old folk, who had no one to talk to, have someone to spend their New Year’s Eve with. Ever been on a mountain to enjoy the pristine, unbroken silence, take in the clear air, only to be disturbed by a carelessly thrown away Bisleri or Kingfisher beer bottle? Or to go to a seemingly lovely beach and wanting to run on it barefoot, only to find out it is littered with trash? Let’s clean up this mess up too. Or at least, help us do it. Let’s make this happen, because we can.
