Advantages of battery cages
1. Hens in the battery cage system are more productive than the ones on deep litter system because the hens on floor use the energy meant for production to move around the house. Caged hens preserve this energy for important body processes like metabolism and egg production.
2. In battery cages,birds are not in contact with their stool or eggs and so hygiene is maintained and diseases like coccidiosis,fowl typhoid,egg peritonitis,necrotic enteritis, e.t.c are easily controlled.

4. Hens utilize water well without spillages. There is no caking of litter and moldiness. This reduces predispose to diseases and ammonia overload .
5. Management and record keeping is easy as the farmer is able to distinguish the layers from non-layers easily,counting the birds is easy plus sick birds are easily recognized.
6. Space is fully utilized. Cages hold twice the number of birds under deep litter within the same space. Cages can be used again and again in the subsequent flocks so it's an asset.
