*Prada designer bags may be one of the most difficult Designer lines to identify as being authentic because of its panorama of styles, shapes, materials, and details; however, there are a few details that are dead giveaways as to a Prada bag’s authenticity.
Authenticity Cards: Each Prada bag should come with 2 or more authenticity cards depending on the material. The first two cards should come in a small black envelope with the PRADA logo on the front as well as “CERTIFICATO DI AUTENTICITA” and “AUTHENTICITY CERTIFICATE CARD” underneath. The first card should resemble a credit card in that it will be plastic. The front of this card will say “Certificato di autenticita – Authenticity certificate card”, and the back will have a magnetic strip and the model number (ART.), style name (MATERIALE), and color (COLORE). It will all be in Itailian and capital lettering. Below that it will say, “This Prada product is granted a guarantee covering all manufacturing defects”, in both Italian and English. At the bottom of the card there will be two boxes that are usually not filled out that say “NEGOZIO / SHOP” and “DATA / DATE” above. These boxes are meant for the retailer to fill out, however many do not. The second card is a thick black card with rounded edges with the PRADA logo embossed on one side and the bags information on the other. It also has the bar code, model number, and serial number. A third card is sometimes included, yet sometimes not, This card is a material care card. It is black, folded along the middle, and presents the information in nine languages.
Dust Bag: (Or sleeper bag) will have a draw string and is white cotton with a black Prada logo on the front. An older version of the Prada dust bag is navy blue with a gold Prada logo.
Packaging: Prada packaging bags either come in a clear plastic bag or a textured white bag. Both styles will have the Prada logo on the front and will come with a sticker that is identical to the paper authenticity card. It should have the same exact serial number and be set up the same way.
Lining: Prada lining is very distinct; it looks and feels very elegant. It will have rows of a design with the word “PRADA” right side up on one row, and upside down on the next row. The interior color should bland with the bag’s exterior color and the interior pockets will be lined with the same material.
Logo: The logo will always say, “PRADA MADE IN ITALY” in all capital letters. Most of the time the bag will have the triangle Prada logo in the middle of the front of the bag or on the side; however, a select few will have the logo on the back of the bag. The letter and symbols on the Logo plaque will be slightly raised. The interior Prada logo plaque is usually rectangular and metal; it will always be attached on all sides to the interior lining, and the main plaque color should match or be near to the bag’s exterior color. The rim of the plaque should always match the bag’s hardware color (silver or gold).
Zippers: Prada zippers can be tricky. The zippers can come from any of the following manufacturers: Lampo, YKK, RIRI, Opti, and IPI; Prada zippers may also not have any markings whatsoever. Most new bags have metal zippers, though some newer bags have plastic zippers.
*When you first open your Prada bag from the packaging, it should initially smell like leather if that is the bag’s material.
