How to choose the right brick or stone for wall cladding
1. Location
Outside walls face sun and heavy rain. Choose hard, well-fired bricks and stone that hold their colour and absorb little water. Inside walls call for the right look and texture.
2. Firing
Proper firing makes a harder, more durable brick. Waterock clay bricks are fired at over 1,300°C for three days. A top-grade exterior facing brick absorbs no more than 17% water in a boiling test.
3. Weight
Light cladding is easier to fix and puts less load on the wall. Installed stone cladding is limited to 73.2 kg per sqm when saturated. Waterock stone weighs only 13-36 kg per sqm.
4. Installation
Most cladding problems come from poor fixing, not the product. A waterproof layer and flashing behind the stone keep water out of the wall. Order everything for one wall together so colours match.
