Good Lesson for Us All

A 50 something year old white woman arrived at her seat on a crowded flight and immediately didn't want the seat. The seat was next to a black man. Disgusted, the woman immediately summoned the flight attendant and demanded a new seat. The woman said,

"I cannot sit here next to this black man."

The fight attendant said,

"Let me see if I can find another seat."

After checking, the flight attendant returned and stated,

"Ma'am, there are no more seats in economy, but I will check with the captain and see if there is something in first class.”

About 10 minutes went by and the flight attendant returned and stated,

“The captain has confirmed that there are no more seats in economy, but there is one in first class. It is our company policy to never move a person from economy to first class, but being that it would be some sort of scandal to force a person to sit next to an UNPLEASANT person, the captain agreed to make the switch to first class."

Before the woman could say anything, the attendant gestured to the black man and said,

"Therefore sir, if you would so kindly retrieve your personal items, we would like to move you to the comfort of first class as the captain doesn't want you to sit next to an unpleasant person."

Passengers in the seats nearby began to applause while some gave a standing ovation

FAITHFULNESS BEGETS FAITHFULNESS
One day a woman came to meet Jawaharlal Nehru and gave him a notebook and a bag. When Nehru opened that bag, it had 35 lakh rupees in it and there was a full account of the rupees in that notebook.

That amount was the capital of the Congress organization. The woman's father used to keep accounts for this. After her father's death, the woman gave that amount to Nehru without keeping a single rupee with her and she went to her house.

That woman who always travelled in the general class coaches of the railways, and wearing her handmade clothes.

She was a woman - long forgotten after independence - daughter of the great leader of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel - "Maniben patel"

In folklore, these intelligent birds have long been considered symbols of all manner of unpleasantness.

But the truth about these birds is that they are sociable creatures, who are very good to each other. They usually forage for food in pairs and love to play. Ravens also mate for life and are devoted parents who both help raise their fledglings. These super-smart birds even console each other and recognise other friendly birds, as well as human faces.

So, while they may look menacing, you'll probably get along with them just fine if you treat them with respect. If not, well, these birds have been known to hold a grudge. After all, another term for a group of ravens is a ‘conspiracy’, so let's try to stay on their good side. (Bing)

WONDERS OF CREATION

Punctuated by five active volcanos and blanketed by a vast plain known as the Tengger Sand Sea, much of this national park's landscape is on the stark side. But venture deeper into the rainforests here and more verdant wonders await. Of course, this being a place of primordial attractions, the greener parts of the park reveal their own gargantuan sights, such as the cascades of water pouring down in our image. This torrent is a tall one: Madakaripura Waterfall is said to be the biggest waterfall in East Java.

Not far from the misty cascade is one of the park's namesakes: Mount Bromo. Although not the highest mountain in the area (that honour goes to another park namesake and Java's tallest peak: Mount Semeru), Bromo is the region's most active volcano. Bing)

Hey neighbour, it's World Space Week!
Space is a big, lonely place, so it's nice to know we have neighbours. The pictured Andromeda Galaxy is our Milky Way's closest - just next door at 2.5 million light years away. Our cordial relationship with Andromeda goes back about 10 billion years to when both galaxies were still forming. But trouble is brewing: Andromeda is on a collision course with the Milky Way, due for impact in four billion years. There goes the neighbourhood.

At some point, in the four billion years we have left, why not turn your attention to the stars, whether on a trip to the countryside, the planetarium, or your back garden? This week’s a good time to start, World Space Week runs from 4-10 October. (Featured on Bing)

NGC 5468 spiral galaxy in the Virgo Constellation
Some galaxies are known as stellar nurseries due to the high number of stars that are 'born' within them. NGC 5468 is notable for just the opposite – this spiral galaxy seems to specialise in dying stars. In the last two decades alone, astronomers have observed within the galaxy five supernova events – the massive explosions caused by a star's demise. Located about 140 million light years from Earth in the Virgo Constellation, NGC 5468 is an ideal galaxy to observe and study because it's orientated towards us, meaning that our telescopes can view it face on. We can thank the Hubble Space Telescope for this stunning image. And a shout out goes to astronomer William Herschel, who discovered this galaxy in 1785.

NASA and the European Space Agency (European Space Agency / ESA) are known to have captured a number of beautiful images of space phenomena since 1990.
