To build confidentiality as a parent, you need to establish trust by actively listening to your children without judging or interrupting them. Encourage them to have open and honest communication with you by leading by example, then validate their feelings.

Teach them to respect people's privacy by respecting their privacy and personal space. Make them understand that there will be consequences for breach of confidentiality, discuss these consequences with them.

Children learn more by seeing than by hearing. Therefore, model the behaviours you want to see in them - keep to your promises, show understanding and empathy towards your children and most especially, be approachable.

By so doing, you are building trust and a strong relationship with your children, and supporting their healthy emotional and psychological development.
