Every experienced tile fixer does this before signing off a floor. Most homeowners have never seen it done.
Take a coin. Tap gently across the surface of a laid tile, working from the centre out toward each corner.
A solid, dull note means the adhesive has made full contact underneath.
A sharp, hollow ring means there's a void under that section — a pocket where the adhesive never bonded to the tile or the substrate.
Those voids are where tile failure begins. Under foot traffic, a tile with a hollow section beneath it flexes slightly with every step. Over time that movement works the tile loose, cracks it across the unsupported span, or lifts the grout line at the edge. In wet areas, the void collects water.
The usual causes are the same three: adhesive applied too thinly, insufficient coverage under the tile, or the tile being set after the adhesive has already started to skin over.
Dewan Tile Bond is formulated for floor and wall tile application, designed to be worked to a consistent bed so that contact is maintained across the full tile footprint.
Tap before you sign off. It takes two minutes and saves a floor.
