>Juniper Networks Grabs New CTO from Google<

In February 2017, Juniper Networks Founder and CTO Pradeep Sindhu revealed that he wanted to step away from the company and ever since Juniper has been looking for a new CTO. That search has now ended.

Today Juniper announced that Bikash Koley will be the company's next CTO effective August 2017. Koloy comes to Juniper after working at Google for nearly a decade, helping lead development of Google's production network infrastructure.

"I have admired Juniper Networks' technology for the last two decades and believe the technology within Juniper will lend itself to an amazing programmable platform that will allow companies to operate seamless hybrid cloud infrastructures," Koley stated. " Harmonious connectivity to clouds is not a solved problem, and I look forward to being part of the new era of networking."

Koley has had a particular emphasis on optical networking throughout his career, which has long been an area where Juniper has had an active interest.

"Bikash is a visionary who has been architecting and operating networks of the future at Google for the past ten years," Rami Rahim, CEO, Juniper Networks said in a statement. " I'm excited to have Bikash help us lead the transformation in the networking industry by delivering innovative products, solutions, and services for network operators around the world."

Aquantia Brings 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps Ethernet to Dell Workstations

Multi-Gig Network Interface Cards enable organizations to use existing Cat 5e and Cat 6 copper cables to deliver faster speeds.

For many enterprise workstations, 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs) represent the normal top end. Dell is now set to change that situation by adopting Aquantia AQtion NICs that can deliver Multi-Gig capabilities.

Dell's OptiPlex 7050 series workstations are now shipping with the Aquantia Multi-gig NICs. Among the configurable options for Dell customers is the option to add an AQtion AQN-108 NIC, which supports up to 5 Gbps Ethernet that will run over an enterprise's existing Cat 5e and Cat 6 cabling.

"With the OptiPlex 7050 configured with the AQN-108, users of modern applications such as high-resolution communications, collaboration and data intensive workloads, will see immediate benefits of Aquantia Multi-Gig capabilities," Aquantia claims in a blog post announcing the new integration. "Users can also expect instant conferencing capabilities and enhanced collaboration better communication among teams, including real-time sharing, annotation and file transfers."

Aquantia announced its new AQtion NICs back on May 15, including both the AQN-107 and AQN-108. The AQN-107 enables up to 10 Gbps Ethernet while the AQN-105 provides support for up to 5 Gbps.

"For the past 17 years, that Ethernet port has stagnated at 1 Gigabit, and become a bottleneck for IT professionals, gamers, and performance users at large," Linn Huang, IDC Research Director, stated. "With data workloads increasing rapidly and with PC gaming rising in popularity, breaking the gigabit plane and moving to multi-gigabit PC Ethernet speeds should be a game changer for high-performance users."

The Multi-Gig support is enabled by way of the IEEE 802.3bz standard that was finalized in September 2016. Work on Multi-Gig has also been pushed forward by the NBASE-T Alliance of which Aquantia is a member.

"Aquantia expects to see a strong ramp in demand for Multi-Gig Ethernet LAN for client platforms used by power-users, professionals, gamers, prosumers and any individual who wants to enjoy fast data-transfer and quick response-times," Kamal Dalmia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Aquantia Corp, said in a statement. "Proliferation of Mulit-Gig Ethernet is the logical next step as Enterprise and home networks get upgraded from legacy Gigabit technology."

Google Improves Security in Android 8.0 Oreo

Google officially announced the latest iteration of its mobile operating system on August 21 with the debut of Android 8.0 Oreo. While performance is one of the headline features in the new release, Google is also implementing multiple security enhancements in Oreo as well.

Following are five new security improvements that are set to debut in Android 8.0 Oreo.

SSLv3 Finally Deprecated
With Android 8.0, Google will finally no longer support the older and insecure SSL version 3.0 protocol. SSLv3 was proven to be insecure in October 2014 when Google researchers first disclosed the POODLE flaw. Additionally, with Oreo, Android will no longer fallback to older TLS protocols when a connection cannot be made.

Secure Computing (SECCOMP) Filter Applied to all Apps.
At long last, Google is implementing support for the Linux SECCOMP security filters technology. With SECCOMP, Android explicitly provides a list of allowed system calls.

Installation of Unknown Apps is More Secure
According to Google, a new security feature in Android 8.0 will not allow any hostile downloader apps to operate without a user's explicit permission.

More Secure Wi-Fi
When connecting to public Wi-Fi access point, the new Android Wi-Fi assistant in Oreo will secure the connection with a VPN tunnel to Google.

Easier Updates
With the Project Treble architecture at the heart of Oreo, Android 8.0 is more modular than past versions of Android, making it easier and faster for vendors to build and deliver future Android security updates.
