🏗️ Ever wonder how massive buildings stay standing? It all starts underground!
The secret isn't just in the steel and glass you see, but in the Foundations hidden beneath the surface. Choosing the right foundation depends on two things: the weight of the building and the type of soil it sits on.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the "Deep Secrets" of engineering:
🔹 Footing (Shallow Foundation): The most common type for houses and light structures. It spreads the load over a wide area near the surface.
🔹 Caisson: The "Heavy Hitter." These are deep, large-diameter cylinders used to support massive loads, like skyscrapers or bridge piers.
🔹 Precast Pile: These are manufactured off-site and literally "hammered" into the ground. They are perfect for stabilizing structures in soft, swampy soils.
🔹 Franki Pile: Notice that "bulb" at the bottom? It's an expanded base that creates a massive surface area, allowing the pile to carry much higher loads than a standard one.
🔹 CFA Pile (Continuous Flight Auger): The high-tech option! It drills into the earth and pumps concrete in simultaneously. It’s fast, efficient, and creates very little vibration.
Engineering is literally the "base" of our modern world!
