🧱 Common Mistakes When Applying Silicone
A bad silicone joint usually comes down to these simple mistakes 👇
1️⃣ Removing too much silicone while tooling
If you take off too much and try to add more immediately, it won’t bond properly — silicone should only be applied to a dry surface.
✅ Instead:
Remove the joint completely using a 90° scraper or edge tool, let it dry, then reapply.
2️⃣ Applying silicone over old silicone
Layering silicone on top of silicone doesn’t create a proper bond and can lead to failure later.
3️⃣ Poor surface preparation
If the area isn’t cleaned and degreased properly, the silicone won’t adhere correctly.
4️⃣ Using your finger instead of a tool
It may work occasionally, but you won’t achieve a clean, even, professional finish across the whole joint.
Good prep + the right tools = long-lasting silicone joints.
