Osmo coatings and flooring were selected for the Musashi-Itsukaichi Station Front Community Hub “Flare Itsukaichi” in Akiruno, western Tokyo.
Located next to the station, Flare Itsukaichi is a welcoming public space where local residents and visitors can stop by, connect with others, learn, and take a break. Built with timber from the Tokyo region, the facility offers a warm and comfortable atmosphere that highlights the natural beauty of wood.
The name “Flare Itsukaichi” combines the idea of a “flare” spreading outward with the Japanese concept of *fureai*—human connection and interaction. It reflects the vision of a place where people, activities, and community ties can grow and spread from this hub.
The project has also attracted attention as a forward-looking example of timber architecture. By making use of local wood and construction methods accessible to regional builders, it presents a practical model for expanding the possibilities of larger-scale timber buildings.
For this place of gathering, relaxation, and community connection, Osmo coatings and flooring were chosen.
Osmo coatings are based on plant oils and help protect the wood while preserving its natural character and appearance.
Flare Itsukaichi has also received the following awards:
* Grand Prize, 7th Wood City TOKYO Model Architecture Award
* Special Jury Prize, Timber Architecture Award by the NPO Forum for Timber Architecture
