Traded some saw repair for this sweet axe - I participated in Timbersports in college, and still have a fondness for any racing axes I can find. I had thought Keech was the only maker of cast axes, but Proax is also a cast head. There isn’t a whole lot of info on the maker or axes themselves, but apparently these were made by Geoff Meyer (not sure the region of manufacture, though). Total weight is a little over 6 lbs, and it measures 7 1/8 x 6 with a 17* bevel. Looks to be a version of a super grind.

Been taking a break from building saws with a toddler in the house. I had been acquiring parts to finish this OE 346xp over the last 6 months or so. Did some work on the transfers and exhaust last year in preparation for the final assembly. Needed a new piston and other small parts, and I’m excited to see how she performs.

Working on a couple of saws right now - both Huskies - a 257 and a 51. The 257 is a bit of an experiment, the cylinder isn’t perfect, but I’ve cleaned it up as best as I can and did a little work to the transfers, intake and exhaust. We’ll try a base gasket delete and see if I can make a muffler fit (this series saw is notoriously difficult to find some parts for). The 51 will get a conversion to a 55 with a brand new oem cylinder and left stock.

About 5 months ago I noticed that sold a screw-on file handle for their chainsaw files of various sizes - unfortunately, they weren’t available from the only authorized Vallorbe supplier in the US. I had always used plastic or wooden tension-style handles prior to this and tended to have issues with alignment and retention over time. I found these file handles on Amazon and decided to see which ones were useful, as they seemed to have a similar design to the Vallorbe handles. All three seem to be very good quality - 21493 had the correct opening for any of the Vallorbe round files, as well as the three-square and double bevel files. 21512 worked well with the 6 inch raker file and the chisel bit file from Vallorbe as well. 21514 was best suited to the 10 inch + mill files - the opening was much too large for anything smaller to be held in. All the files I tested mounted true, and held securely.

Selling Vallorbe three-square, double bevel and chisel bit files - contact me for pricing. I have them available individually, as well as by the dozen. I also have Vallorbe 6-inch raker/depth gauge files individually or by the dozen. I can get a variety of round file sizes as well.

Typical work on the 359 for better performance.Still might need some finer tuning, but it’s idling pretty well now, and is limited to around 12500rpm. It was...

I’ve started carrying Vallorbe files, beginning with chisel chain files - double bevel, triangle (3-sided), and soon to be in stock, single bevel files. They’re really high-quality, too-of-the-line Swiss made files. They cut smoothly, and the double bevel ones in particular are more comfortable to hold with the end opposite the tang being a round shape, rather than flat. I’ll be getting a new product in from them that isn’t available in the US currently - keep an eye out for it in the next 4-6 months!

Vallorbe triangle file for square ground chain filing - 2276. Rare to find this Vallorbe model. Feels a lot more like round files, so transitioning to square ground chain filing may be easier with this design.I’ve found this design to cut as well as the 2279 model that...

It was about 2 years ago that I embarked on my first Husqvarna 359 project. After selling it last year I was on the lookout for another project. We’ll, a few months back I found it - it looked like the original plastic intake clamp failed - so I cleaned up the cylinder the best I could, put another used oem piston with a Caber ring on it (after doing some minor go-fast mods to the cylinder and muffler), and she’s almost ready for a start up. Waiting on a new exhaust heat shield and gasket and we should be good to go!

Had the 181se out yesterday for some work. It needed some fine tuning, as well as the depth gauges knocked down a little more, but was running pretty well. Also looking into K&N cone filter options - the Uni just sits up a little too high for me.

181se that I worked over a little bit - some cylinder work, nothing extreme, and still needs a little fine tuning to keep it running right. Passing all the t...
