I spent the week refinishing my grandparents kitchen cabinets! It took me a solid 6 days to get these done but boy was it rewarding seeing her face when we attached the last door. 🥰

Refinished MCM Lane Altavista two tier step up table.

I love how this table turned out, personally I’m a huge fan of two tone wood in a piece. Rather than toning down the wood grain to match them.

Primitive dresser with a white wash natural finish. With completely rebuilt drawers, new handles, and lots of stain removal this dresser is now ready for the next 100 years of life.

The drawers are built with Knapp Joints, which tells me it was built between 1860s-1900s. The solid oak dresser had a lot of stains but with the help of some Oxalic acid, almost all the stains have been removed.
The handles are new, sadly finding a set of 12 matching antique handles proved to be a real challenge.

I LOVE restoring furniture. This right here is the best part of it all. Seeing all the hours and hand sanding showing up in the finished product.

I had to use some new techniques I’ve never tried before on this cabinet. Steaming out giant scratches from the top with my iron and a wet towel. It is really amazing how trusting the process paid off.

Have you ever steamed out a scratch? Here’s what I did:
I used a household iron on the highest setting and an old T-shirt sleeve soaked in water. I sprayed the cabinet spot, and set the wet towel over the spot. Set the iron on the towel for 3-5sec until it sizzled. I let the towel sit on the spot for 30 sec before removing the towel. This piece had multiple deep scratches on the top. I moved from scratch to scratch, repeating the process about 10 times each scratch, until the scratch was lifted. I then let it dry out over night and sanded smooth the next day. Now they are almost invisible.

Mid century modern two tier table, completely refinished.

This one gave me a run for my money. I tested out my new sprayer finishing this piece. It worked great but then I accidentally got black paint on the base. So it was completely sanded down again. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m just proud of myself for not tossing it to the curb. 😂

My main man wanted to help me decorate the latest piece of furniture that I refinished. Of course, I said yes!

As a single mom working a full time job, along with refinishing furniture on the side there are things we just do together now and I’m always happy for this guys help. Luckily for me he is very passionate about decorating. ❤️

It’s been a long time coming 💃🏻🎶 and now he’s finished!
Mid century modern lowboy walnut dresser.
19”D x 31 3/4”H x 60”W

Completely refinished, here was the process:
1. Scrape the entire base and face of drawers.
2. Strip the handles, scrub clean.
3. Sand everything down using 120-220 grit sandpaper.
4. Fix water mark stain with
5. Fill all the damage on the handles, this was the most time consuming. The handles were so soft and had a lot of damage.
6. 3 coats of wipe on poly coat for the base and drawer faces.
7. Tape off all the handles, prime and then paint. Along with very tedious touch up painting along the tight edges.
8. Hand sand and wax all the interior of the drawers.

Refinishing a large dresser like this isn’t a quick job and I definitely dragged my feet finishing his one. I could not be happier with the final results though. If you’ve gotten this far, let me know what you think, have you ever seen this style mcm dresser before? Google didn’t have any answers on identifying the maker.
