In 1999, as one of the founders (Rick Kline) was building his home, he learned that the window treatment style that his wife wanted to use would require them to reposition or replace the door handles on their patio "French" doors, else the plantation shutter blinds would not work. Because the handle was an essential part of the door's multipoint hardware locking mechanism and the design was chosen
for the décor of the house; he was not excited about the proposed options. After consulting with his father (Bob), the other founder, they agreed they could design and make a part for the door hardware allowing for the continued function of the lever handle and mortised security mechanism plus the full operation of the shutters without interference. With that idea they created their first door handle extension -- the X-10-DOR™ (pronounced ex-ten-door) -- and started RAK LTD in 2000. RAK LTD manufactures the X-10-DOR™ DOOR HANDLE EXTENSION. X-10-DORs™ work by projecting the handle out thus moving it away from the door and adding the needed room required for window treatments while still allowing the handle to function as intended. They work wonderfully with today's hard window treatments like shutters, wood blinds, shades, cellulars, romans, and motorized treatments.
