Can a single glass wall opening tie three levels of living to 180-degree waterfront views?

This Tacoma, Washington contemporary home on Heron Ridge captures panoramic views of Puget Sound, the city skyline, and Mount Rainier across three levels. folding glass patio doors connect the main living space directly to an entertainment-ready patio and hot tub.
Open, the living room becomes an open-air extension of the deck with unobstructed views in every direction.

Closed, floor-to-ceiling glass and thermally broken frames handle Pacific Northwest rain and wind year-round while 12-foot vaulted ceilings and Brazilian hardwood floors keep the interior warm.

Four expansive decks. Chef's kitchen with waterfall island. 21-foot cascading water feature in the slate entry. And one glass wall that ties it all to the water.

Effortless one-finger operation through decades of daily use. That's the spec a homeowner gave her architect.

"My challenge to our architect was... I have to be able to do this when I'm 85." That's how homeowner Suzanne briefed Feldman Architecture on her Monterey County home, the Butterfly House.

Floor supported systems deliver expansive glass with all-season thermal performance and strong U-values. Open, the home extends fully into the meadow. Closed, energy efficiency and security hold without sacrificing transparency.

Engineered for decades of daily use. As the homeowners shared, the systems "are very easy to use."

Save this for a project with long-term residential performance requirements.

Which direction to stack your folding doors, to the left or to the right? How about both?

Panels that open to the left or right and stack next to the swing door offer maximum flexibility and floor plan efficiency.

Generation 4 folding glass systems shift a space between two completely different programs. FourFold and SixFold floating panel sets glide effortlessly, can be specified inward or outward, stack on top of one another, and slide to whichever side the layout demands.

A convenient swing door at the jamb provides everyday passage without operating the full system.

Engineered for the daily grind in commercial and residential environments alike. Seen

As energy codes tighten, verified U-values of operable systems matter more than ever.

For folding glass wall systems, whole-system performance depends on much more than the glass alone. Frames, thermal breaks, interlocks, seals, and air infiltration all contribute to how a system performs in real-world conditions.

That's why NFRC-certified testing matters. It provides architects and builders with greater confidence during specification, energy modeling, and permitting.

At , folding glass wall systems are independently tested and engineered for large aluminum framed openings, helping support modern energy code requirements while preserving the openness and flexibility today's projects demand.

Adaptive reuse projects face one constant tension: preserve the historic envelope or modernize the performance.

opening glass walls solve for both.

This 100-year-old Seattle grocery store was preserved historically while modernized with an indoor-outdoor top floor that opens entirely to the Olympic Mountains.

The home was originally built in 1922 as a Black-owned butcher shop and grocery store founded by the Humphreys family. Renovated in 2018, the structure now functions as a 3-bedroom multi-level residence while preserving the original storefront windows and integrating reclaimed wood throughout the interior.

Floor-to-ceiling frameless glass that turns a seasonal porch into a year-round room.

This home has ClimaCLEAR patented frameless stacking glass doors enclosing the outdoor living area. Each panel of glass has no vertical frame, so the view into the surrounding forest stays completely uninterrupted.

Open, the porch becomes part of the surrounding forest. Closed, the space is protected from rain and wind while natural light floods in from every direction.

Flexible event spaces require systems that can reconfigure quickly.

At the Wellfield Botanic Gardens Visitor Center, six FSW75 frameless glass walls allow the venue to operate as multiple event rooms or one large gathering space, depending on occupancy needs.

The top-hung panels stack efficiently against adjacent walls to maximize floor layouts during large events, while swing doors provide independent room access when the systems remain closed.

Custom decorative glass film adds privacy without blocking transparency, and ADA-compliant sills maintain uninterrupted transitions between spaces.
