In the studio tonight recording phone on-hold messages for a financial planning institution in Ohio. One of the first things that I do when recording on-hold messages is learn something about the company that my voice will represent. I Google them, go to their website, and try to put myself in the company's shoes. That way when I speak to their clientele I feel I am truly speaking for that particular place of business. Interestingly, in tonight's reads, a particular employee is mentioned. "When you call be sure to speak with ... " The website shows their picture. As I speak those words I see this person as though I know them. This gives me ownership of my reads.

Author Ray Bradbury passed away today. One of my favorite stories from his pen was Fahrenheit 451. He also wrote one of my favorite quotes in the book, “You’re afraid of making mistakes. Don’t be. Mistakes can be profited by. Man, when I was young I shoved my ignorance in people’s faces. They beat me with sticks. By the time I was forty my blunt instrument had been honed to a fine cutting point for me. If you hide your ignorance, no one will hit you and you’ll never learn.” RIP Mr. Bradbury.
