With so many new faces here recently, I thought it would be the perfect time to reintroduce myself and share a little more about The Kemp Nest. First, thank you for being here! Whether you've been following since the beginning or just found my page through a recent reel, I'm so grateful for your support.

I'm Emily, the maker behind The Kemp Nest. I started this business in 2023 after leaving my career as a special education teacher to stay home with our three kids and better navigate the unique challenges and opportunities that come with military life. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a business that allows me to combine my love of woodworking, crafting, and creating meaningful pieces for others.

I specialize in handmade wood signs, home décor, seasonal pieces, and personalized gifts. You can shop my products through both my website and Etsy shop. My website includes all of my currently available products, while Etsy is where I primarily feature my bestselling items.

I'm located in the Greater Peoria, Illinois area and offer local delivery, but I can also ship almost everything I create across the United States.

I know many of you follow along for crafting inspiration and ideas, too! My behind-the-scenes reels are designed to give customers a glimpse into the time, creativity, and craftsmanship that go into each handmade piece. While I occasionally share tutorials and offer craft kits, I don't currently offer online crafting instruction. However, for my local followers, I do host craft parties and workshops for parties, businesses, churches, and community organizations! I bring the supplies, guidance, and creativity so you can enjoy making something unique together.

“Why does it take 7–10 business days to make my order?”

Here’s a little peek behind the scenes!

This video shows me prepping just 8 of my porch leaners for the week. From sawing and sanding to burning/staining and sealing the wood before I can even begin the decorating process, this portion alone took about 3 hours (and that doesn’t include any of the dry time!).

Every sign that leaves my workshop is handcrafted with attention to detail because I want you to receive something I’m truly proud of. Could I rush through orders faster? Maybe. But that would likely mean taking fewer orders at a time or sacrificing some of the quality and care I want every piece to have. I appreciate your patience as it lets me make each sign up to my standards!

As Memorial Day approached, I knew I wanted to offer something at a special price, but I also wanted to make sure it reflected support for our veterans while honoring those who gave their lives for our country. 🇺🇸

This customizable veteran porch leaner can feature:
• United States at the top
• Or Army, Air Force, Marines, or Navy
with “VETERAN” displayed down the side alongside a handpainted flag design.

For a limited time through next Monday, I’m offering these for just $35 (reg. $50) each in hopes of getting them into as many military homes as possible...starting with our own. ❤️

My husband serves in the Illinois Army National Guard, so this very first sample will be proudly displayed at our own home this summer. Creating this piece felt especially meaningful for our family, and I’m honored to now share it with yours!
