One of the most frequently asked questions we receive when remodeling bathrooms is, "How do you create a zero threshold shower?" So, I thought I'd make a quick video showcasing the process.

Step one: Mark out the interior footprint of the shower.

Step two: Cut along the lines you just drew, and against the walls surrounding the shower.

Step three: Remove any nails or screws holding the shower floor down and take out the old floor.

Step four: Inspect the floor joists. In this case, they were engineered joists, also known as I-joists.

Step five: Cut 1/2" thick filler pieces and nail them in place.

Step six: Cut ledger 2x4s and screw them into place. We used 1" subfloor as our inlays, so we screwed them in 1" from the top of the joist, using a cut piece to ensure the right height.

Step seven: Cut new subfloor for each joist bay inlay. Make sure to use adhesive and nails or screws to prevent floor squeaking.
