Here's a quick synopsis of my robot dog build from a while ago. It's not fancy but it was my first robot build using foam and fabric.
I admit at the time, I was very overwhelmed with this build and not sure how to do it. The client had a very specific view in mind. This is why it took me so long to . Although there were so many better ways to go I realize after building it. But I used what I had as collecting items would have taken too long to make it look a different way such as Plastics and metals. The client wanted it to look like metal but soft. This project completely overwhelmed me. I do like the way this project turned out for my experience level at the time. I was still what I would consider more of a beginner / intermediate puppet maker being self-taught with very little experience.

I was lucky enough to find a discarded puppet in a home and had the perfect color eyes that I needed I don't know how I would have gotten them otherwise.

The client was thrilled and I still made the deadline although it was extended a bit once. The hands fully moved and were poseable the ears rotated 360° I don't really remember what else about this puppet at the time right now because it's been so many years but the front of him was an old Walkman

To me, the first pic looks like the old time ink color washed post cards I used to see.

And this is why I reverse photos (or they Tell artists to look at their work in a mirror). Our eyes get used Seeing things one way and we don't see When things need an adjustment With glasses as he has no eyes yet it's easier to see An adjustment needs to be made to fill out one side of his muscle An easy adjustment the rest is just gonna have to be a quirk in his character.

This is tee shirt material I'm using to make a pattern for the fur top coat that covers the foam.

Puppets can be anything:
Break out the eyes, or don't. Think outside the box when building, you just may surprise yourself.
Me? I journey down $1 store, hardware, even supermarket aisles (non-food mostly), after finding what I need, not to buy, to see what's there, later, I'll be thinking... I need a thing that's shaped like..., ohh, I know where has just the thing I can use!!!

This post is late, my apologies, here's a puppet I recently finished and a couple of photos about the process, feel free to question. Sorry, these pictures are in reverse order.

Started my next project, a racoon for the local library in town. It's their mascot. It's no ordinary racoon, but you'll have to wait to see what I mean. Currently I'm taking the foam patterned "skull" from a pattern I use for other puppets, but I have it taped so i can use clay to sculpt what i need to create what i need to make him a racoon. His nose and jaw or muzzle is quite unique. Giving him almost a triangle shaped head, he's going to need cheeks too, I'm working this way rather than create an entirely new pattern as time constraints don't allow for it. Also puppets
With small mouths are inherently difficult to use, exhausting the puppeteers hands or fingers. I will disguise by covering with cheeks and hair. Here's what I'm up to: the drawing is in pencil, so it's hard to see, I apologize (but I cannot really give all my secrets out now can I?)🤫:

How amazing is this, both the cause, the walking puppet, and the artist Penny.
I just cannot stop staring at those eyes!...(As a builder myself I sit here wracking my brain asking myself, what did she use to make them? That's how you know great art when you see it!) ...maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to learn. Till then, I wanted everyone to be as lucky as I was to see this too!
