Golfers representing 12 local Tours from across the country traveled to compete in Michigan. Each of the five flight champions earned an automatic entry into the 2026 National Championship this October.
Nick Maze, Marcus Wirth, Peter Chhim, Cole Jager, and Bill Roelfsema won in their Flight at the Great Lakes Regional.
"Golf's most heroic round" was played at the Great Lakes Regional on American Dunes Golf Club - birthplace to Folds of Honor. The honor was ours!
The course, weather and competition were top notch. These players were able to navigate the 30 strategically placed bunkers by Jack Nicklaus and the up to 30 mph gusty wind on day 1. Day 2 gave a big reprieve of the wind, but the 30 bunkers were still lying in wait.
In the Championship Flight, Nick Maze (Dallas-Fort Worth), went wire to wire to claim victory by shooting +2 on day 1 and -3 day 2 for a 10 stroke victory with a 143 total. Finishing second was John Chupp (Michigan) with a 153. 3rd place went to Chicago Director Bill Prosecky with a 158 followed by Greg Richmond and Joe Goldschmidt (both from Cincinnati/Dayton) in 4th and 5th place respectively by shooting 164.
In the A Flight, With his consistent 76/76, Marcus Wirth (Michigan) claimed the title with a two-round total of 152, finishing 6 strokes clear of the field. Angel Velazquez (Hilton Head-Savannah) earned second place with a 158, directly behind by a stroke was Paul Evans (Michigan) in 3rd shooting 159 and Jon Wendt (Indianapolis) in 4th with a 162. Rounding out the top was Tarish Sekhon (Michigan) with a 166.
In the B Flight, Peter Chhim (Michigan), won by 2 strokes after holding a 1 stroke lead after day 1 for a two-day total of 169. Torin White (Cincinnati/Dayton), finished solo second at 173, followed by Greg Beaverson (Indianapolis), who placed third with a 175. Randy Ward (Michigan) claimed fourth place with a score of 178, while Selvan Murugan (Michigan) rounded out the top five at 183.
In the C Flight, It took a playoff to determine the winner. Taking home the win was Cole Jager (Michigan) over Ken DeLong (Michigan) after both shot 176. Taking 3rd place and 4th place respectively was Travis Hamp (Michigan) and James Banko (Michigan) after shooting 179.
5th place belongs to Philip Beaverson (Indianapolis) with his 2-day score of 182.
In the D Flight, Michigan Assistant, Bill Roelfsema, captured the trophy with a two-day total of 188. Todd Kurtz (Milwaukee) was 2nd at 195 and Kirby Hudgins (Michigan) finished third with 197 followed by Brian Mull (Michigan) in 4th with 200 and LT Taylor rounding out the top 5 with his 204.
