Okay.
Let’s talk about how it was made, and what it was made out of.
This knife sheath has a few different parts/components: it has an exterior and interior, a belt attachment and a leg strap.
The exterior is made from Horween Leather’s Chromexcel in a 4oz brown cowhide, and the interior is Horween’s SHF Chromexcel in a 3oz brown horsehide. I really like pairing these two hides together. The horsehide is just slightly thinner than the cowhide, tends to stretch a little less than cowhide. This tends to add some structure without too much bulk, and somehow making the top layer feel softer. Horsehide also worked really well for the straps that hold the belt attachment to the sheath since it stretches less than cowhide.

Oh yeah, that reminds me… the belt attachment. It’s an attachment because the sheath is made to work with or without the belt attachment, and it’s reversible (so you can use it on either the right or left side of your body). It also has a fully adjustable leg strap that allows for full mobility with full confidence of huge knife staying put! A near excessive amount of beeswax was also applied to to encourage stiffening.

Hardware. All hardware on this sheath is solid brass. This includes 4 button snaps, 1 strap slide (on the belt attachment’s hinge) and 2 rivets. Yeah, the rivets are solid brass too 😍). The interior also includes a 4mm x 10mm protective bumper that keeps the blade’s edge away from the dark green waxed cord used to hand stitch this beauty.

Burnished. Every edge was burnished completely smooth and then underwent a process of edge dyeing that includes a rubbery dye that really adheres when exposed to an open flame. I don’t know why or how 🤷🏻‍♂️.

This is unquestionably one of the coolest projects I’ve worked on; collaborations with respectable craftsmen and fun designs are always a personal favorite/preference. The great The Dylan Grace Blade Company made found a new way to make a beautiful (yet frightening) blade for mister Jason Momoa, and I’m beyond grateful/honored to make a versatile sheath to wrap around this *tiny knife.
The entire project was done with precision and care to showcase a variety of materials and textures that came together perfectly.

This burgundy CXL leather from Horween is pretty gorgeous. I’ve been testing a few different products with it. Including the passport wallet shown here that’s starting to show it’s beautiful age and wear.
A few weeks ago I spilled some edge dye on it and didn’t realize it until it was fully dry. That probably doesn’t sound like a big deal, but this edge dye is tough stuff. It really soaks into the leather and dries to a like-rubber finish. I was slightly frustrated at first, because the spill could’ve been avoided. And my first thought was “it’s ruined! What did I do?!” But then I remembered that it wasn’t ruined at all. It’s leather. And as long as leather isn’t torn, cut, shot or severely burned it is strong enough to keep going and gain some character. Maybe that’s why we like leather, because it reminds us that wear and aging adds character. And maybe that reminds us of ourselves, or the people around us.
After realizing that it wasn’t actually ruined, I went ahead and peeled off what I could, heated it up in order to scrape off some of the edge dye, and oiled the damaged areas to help it age well. I think it looks pretty good, and it’ll all darken and look even better over time.
