My Why
I started building cinches back in the summer of 2016. I was starting colts full time, I was riding several head every month, and I just wasn’t liking the old neoprene cinch I was using. It slipped, it rubbed, it caused some sores, I just wasn’t impressed. I’d been researching styles and kinds of cinches for most of the previous winter, trying to decide what I would like best, and mohair is what kept coming out on top. So on a whim, I purchased the supplies and whipped up a little 26” 17 strand mohair straight cinch to use for myself. I had no intention at the time of turning it into any sort of business. That is, until I fell in love with that cinch. It was a bit uneven, a bit messy, not perfect in any way, but it fit my colts so well! Two years later I still have that same cinch, it’s been through the winter slop in the sale barn yard, through hot summers riding on cows at summer pasture, and I haven’t taken the greatest care of it. But it’s held up, it’s remained perfectly functional, and it’s never sored a single horse I’ve put it on.
I’m all about what’s best for my horses. And from the moment I started riding that first mohair cinch, I knew I was on to something good - there’s certainly a reason why the vaqueros and buckaroos in the past used mohair cinches a lot - they worked hard and they needed tack that would not only hold up to that hard work, but keep their horses comfortable all day long as well. So, I started studying how to create more artistic designs, different styles, etc. and it’s taken off from there. I strive to create the highest quality items that I possibly can, and I take pride in each and every one of my pieces. I had so many requests for customs, I thought, “well shoot, maybe I can make a business of this after all.” My dream has always been to work my own business, so I can spend my precious time doing something I love, but also so I can be there for my daughters whenever I want - not on weekday evenings and weekends. I only have so much time with them as babes, and I want to do work I am passionate about, that allows me the freedom to be with them anytime.
I have since started offering mainly 19 strand straights or 27 strand roper style cinches, to help disperse pressure better, and I use the flat, double bar buckles as a standard for the same reason. Of course on custom items you can request different strand numbers and hardware, but I believe these, used in conjunction, provide the highest level of comfort possible for your horse. Breast collars, tripping collars, wither straps, even purse/guitar straps are also part of my product offering these days was well. I have partnered with Big Sioux Saddlery for the leather pieces I use for breast collars, she also creates all of her items by hand, and she does phenomenal, high quality work, so you get a piece that is 100% handmade, 110% quality.
