Reg Barber invented the modern tamper in 1995 when he created the first two-piece design with interchangeable handles and bases. Held together by a steel screw, this modular design allows tampers to be easily sized to different hands and portafilter baskets, both critical elements for a tool used by professional and home baristas around the world. An accomplished woodworker, Reg’s first tamper han
dle was naturally made of wood, the very first tamper in this material. Today, authentic Reg Barber tampers come in a range of woods as well as a dizzying array of powder coated and anodized colors. Tamper bases are available in any diameter to fit our customers’ exacting needs and six different styles: Flat, C-Flat, Euro Curve, US Curve, Ripple and C-Ripple. These styles each produce a different coffee bed in the portafilter, invented by Reg to give baristas a range of options to explore. Over the past 25 years, at least nine world champions trusted Reg Barber tampers to take the trophy, which incidentally is made by Reg and topped by one of his iconic tampers. We’ve even custom designed tampers for some world champions! Today, Reg still makes wooden handles in his workshop in Penticton, BC. Metalwork and orders are fulfilled from Montreal, QC. Whether you’re a professional barista, home aficionado, café owner, or reseller, we’re delighted to support your efforts to make your very best coffee.
